Reports To: Controller/VP Finance
Location: Pass Road Headquarters
Duration: 10 weeks (June 1-August 7)
Hours: Part-time, 20-25 hours per week
SUMMARY:
The accounting and finance intern will support the credit union’s accounting and finance teams in core functions, financial analysis, and reporting. This role emphasizes hands-on experience with financial data, general ledger activity, and organizational financial operations, while providing limited exposure to accounts payable processes.
LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES:
- Assist with preparation of financial reports, including monthly and quarterly statements.
- Support general ledger activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations
- Assist researchers with identifying details regarding outstanding entries. Provides support to resolve outstanding reconciling items within expected deadlines
- Analyze financial data and assist in identifying trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement
- Participate in month-end closing and quarterly call report processes
- Support internal and external audit processes by compiling documentation and schedules
- Ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and regulatory standards
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand financial impact of business activities
- Participate in various team meetings, projects, tasks, and assignments
- Monitors accounts payable inbox, addresses vendor inquiries and assembles invoices
INTERN QUALIFICATIONS:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program: accounting, finance, or business administration
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to work up to 20-25 hours per week at our Biloxi headquarters office
