About the role
The Juniper Institute for Young Writers (JIYW) seeks University of Massachusetts Amherst undergraduate students to serve as Program Assistants in its acclaimed summer creative writing program for high school writers July 13–August 8, 2025. This position offers the opportunity to gain valuable leadership, as well as professional, creative, and academic training in the context of an intensive summer creative writing program for a multicultural group of highly motivated high school writers.
Role Description
During our residential program, July 13 – August 8, 2025, Program Assistants will provide support, supervision, and mentoring to Juniper participants on the UMass Amherst campus. Under the guidance of Juniper staff, Program Assistants will help facilitate an engaging and inclusive environment for young people with a variety of social identities who are pursuing the writing life. Typical duties include: guiding small groups to daily activities and meals, helping facilitate program activities in and outside of the classroom, and liaising between staff and instructors.
