JRF Position in Computational Mechanics and Material Modelling at IIEST Shibpur
Applications are invited for the position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in an ANRF-sponsored research project at IIEST Shibpur, located in the Kolkata metropolitan area.
Project Title:
Thermodynamically Consistent, Microstructure-Aware Viscoplastic–Damage Models for Metals Subjected to Fire and Extreme Strain Rates
The project focuses on the development of mathematical and computational models for the mechanics of materials, with emphasis on thermodynamically consistent viscoplasticity, damage, microstructure effects, fire exposure, and extreme strain-rate loading.
Role Description:
The selected Junior Research Fellow will work full-time in an on-site position at IIEST Shibpur. The responsibilities will include conducting literature reviews, developing and implementing mathematical and computational models, designing and performing numerical simulations, analyzing data, and documenting research findings.
The JRF will also assist in preparing research reports, manuscripts, conference presentations, and progress reports required by the funding agency. The position will involve regular interaction with faculty members, senior researchers, and peers, as well as participation in academic seminars, project meetings, and related research activities.
The candidate is expected to follow ethical research practices, adhere to institutional and funding-agency guidelines, and contribute actively to the overall objectives of the project and the department.
Essential Qualifications:
- Applicants should have a first-class M.E./M.Tech./M.S. degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Materials Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Exceptional B.Tech. candidates may also be considered.
- The candidate must have qualified GATE or CSIR-UGC NET.
Desirable Skills:
- Continuum mechanics
- Plasticity/damage mechanics
- Finite element methods
- Numerical simulation
- MATLAB/Python/C++/Fortran
- ABAQUS, COMSOL, or similar tools
Fellowship:
- ₹37,000/- per month + HRA: ₹11,100/- per month (for 1st-2nd year)
- ₹42,000/- per month + HRA: ₹12,600/- per month (for 3rd year)
Duration:
Initially for one year, expandable up to a maximum of three years based on satisfactory performance.
