Junior Mechanical Design Engineer
Pencil Engineering is looking for a Junior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team.
We provide mechanical design and engineering drawing services to companies in the metal fabrication and machinery manufacturing industries, supporting projects for clients in India and overseas.
We are looking for someone with a good foundation in SolidWorks and mechanical design who is willing to learn our design standards, workflows, and project requirements.
This is a full-time position with an initial 2-month evaluation period. Candidates who demonstrate good technical ability, learning ability, work quality, and consistency during the evaluation period will be considered for continuation as a full-time employee.
What you'll be doing
- Creating 3D models, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings using SolidWorks
- Designing sheet-metal parts, weldments, and fabricated structures
- Preparing manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, BOMs, cut lists, and DXF files
- Applying appropriate dimensions, tolerances, weld symbols, and basic GD&T
- Modifying and developing designs based on client requirements and project specifications
- Applying Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to ensure designs are practical and production-ready
- Working on real-world mechanical design projects for companies in the metal fabrication and machinery manufacturing industries
What we're looking for
- Diploma / B.Tech / B.E. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- 1–3 years of experience in mechanical design or a related field
- Minimum 1 year of practical experience with SolidWorks
- Basic to good understanding of sheet-metal design
- Some experience with fabrication, weldments, or machinery design
- Experience creating or working with engineering/manufacturing drawings
- Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings
- Basic understanding of dimensions, tolerances, and manufacturing processes
- Good attention to detail
- Willingness to learn and adapt to our design standards and workflow
- Ability to take feedback and improve
- Interest in building a long-term career in mechanical design
