Company Description
Land River Sea Consulting is a specialist water resources and river engineering consultancy delivering flood, river hydraulics, and hazard mapping projects in New Zealand and internationally.
We work in small, technically focused teams and place a strong emphasis on quality, good judgment, and clear communication. Our projects are high-impact and technically demanding, and we prioritise thoughtful analysis over production-line delivery.
Role Description
We are seeking a Junior GIS Technician to join our Bengaluru team.
You will support senior engineers and analysts on New Zealand–based flood, river hydraulics, and climate resilience projects, contributing primarily through high-quality spatial data work, mapping, and GIS-based analysis.
This role is ideal for someone early in their career who wants to build strong GIS fundamentals, develop technical judgment, and work on meaningful, real-world projects.
This is a GIS-focused role supporting engineering projects — not a drafting or cartography-only position.
What you’ll work on
- Flood hazard mapping and spatial analysis
- Preparation and management of GIS datasets for hydraulic modelling
- River and terrain analysis using LiDAR and other spatial data
- Production of clear, accurate maps for technical reports
- Projects are based in New Zealand, offering exposure to international standards, datasets, and quality expectations.
Your responsibilities
- Editing, maintaining, and analysing spatial data using ArcGIS Pro and QGIS
- Producing clear, well-structured maps and visual outputs
- Feature delineation and classification using LiDAR and aerial imagery
- Geo-referencing, digitising, and dataset preparation
- Organising and documenting spatial data to ensure reproducibility
- Supporting engineers with GIS inputs to modelling workflows
- Collaborating closely with senior team members in New Zealand
Qualifications
Essential
- 1–3 years of experience in GIS or spatial data roles
- Strong working knowledge of ArcGIS Pro and/or QGIS
- Experience working with spatial datasets (e.g. shapefiles, rasters, LiDAR)
- Basic Python skills for GIS or data processing
- Degree or diploma in GIS, Geography, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field
- Clear spoken and written English
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
Preferred (but not required)
- Exposure to flood mapping or water resources projects
- Familiarity with coordinate systems and spatial data transformations
- Experience with CAD or drafting tools
- Exposure to hydraulic modelling workflows
- Team, Growth & Work Arrangement
- Small, friendly, technically strong team
- Direct mentoring from experienced engineers and analysts
- Clear pathway to grow into a senior GIS or technical specialist role
- Emphasis on quality, consistency, and understanding the data — not just producing outputs
Work arrangement
- Hybrid role: 2-3 days per week in our Hebbal, Bengaluru office
- Working hours aligned with New Zealand:
- Work-from-home days: 5:00am – 2:30pm
- Work from Office days: 8:00am - 4:30pm
- Work days: Mon–Fri
Why Join Us
- Interesting, high-impact international projects
- Exposure to advanced flood and climate resilience work
- Quality-first culture (no production-line GIS)
- Competitive compensation
- A team that values both good technical work and being human about it
