About Us
Ibn Batuttah is a travel technology startup currently in its pre-launch stage. We are building a platform that connects mid-size travel agents with the global travel market. We provide vendors with global hotel and flight inventory, a precision trip creator, and a complete dashboard to create and manage travel packages. Travellers can compare rates from multiple vendors, book hotels and flights, and build their own custom itineraries on our platform.
We are a small core team working directly with the Founder to build something that does not exist anywhere else in the travel industry. This is not a corporate job with fixed processes and large teams. This is a startup where you will learn fast, work on real production code from Day 1, and have direct impact on the product.

About the Role
You will work as a junior developer under the guidance of our Senior Developer. Your primary role is to coordinate with the Senior Developer on a daily basis, take on delegated tasks, build UI components, fix bugs, test features, and work on smaller modules. All your work will be assigned, reviewed, and approved by the Senior Developer before deployment.
While this is a support role, we value your ideas and creativity. If you see a better way to build something, a smarter solution, or have suggestions to improve the platform - we want to hear it. Your input will be welcomed and considered. The best ideas can come from anyone on the team regardless of experience level. That said, final technical decisions rest with the Senior Developer and the Founder.
What You Will Do
- Coordinate with the Senior Developer daily to receive task assignments, discuss progress, and resolve blockers
- Build and maintain frontend components using React.js and Tailwind CSS based on Figma designs as assigned by the Senior Developer
- Develop and maintain backend APIs using Node.js and Express under the guidance of the Senior Developer
- Work with MySQL database - write queries, manage schemas, and optimize performance as directed
- Integrate third-party APIs (hotel booking APIs, flight APIs, payment gateways, maps) following the integration approach set by the Senior Developer
- Implement and maintain caching using Redis for improved performance
- Work on localization and multi-language support for the platform as our platform serves users across multiple countries
- Fix bugs reported during testing and user feedback - prioritised by the Senior Developer
- Submit all code for review by the Senior Developer before merging
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following the coding standards set by the Senior Developer
- Test features across browsers and devices before handing over to the Senior Developer for final review
- Participate in daily standups with the Senior Developer and weekly planning with the Founder
- Proactively update the Senior Developer on task status, estimated completion time, and any issues faced
- Share ideas, suggest improvements, and bring creative solutions to the table - your perspective as a developer matters to us
Tech Stack Required
- React.js (functional components, hooks, state management)
- Node.js with Express.js
- MySQL (queries, joins, indexing, schema design)
- Tailwind CSS (utility-first styling, responsive design)
- Redis (basic caching, session management)
- Third-party API integration (REST APIs, handling responses, error management)
- Git and GitHub (version control, branching, pull requests)
Good to Have
- Experience with localization libraries (i18next, react-intl, or similar)
- Understanding of JWT authentication and session management
- Experience with payment gateway integration (Razorpay, Stripe)
- Familiarity with Google Maps API or similar mapping services
- Knowledge of deployment (basic Linux, Nginx, PM2, or Docker)
- Understanding of responsive design and mobile-first development
- Experience with any CMS or admin panel frameworks
What We Need
- 1 to 1.5 years of hands-on development experience (internships count if you wrote production code)
- Working knowledge of the MERN stack - you should be able to build a basic CRUD application independently
- Comfortable reading and understanding existing codebases - you will be working on an existing platform, not building from scratch
- Ability to take instructions from the Senior Developer and execute them accurately without needing repeated explanations
- Ability to follow coding standards and write code that others can read and maintain
- Problem-solving mindset - you should be able to debug issues independently before escalating to the Senior Developer
- Creative thinking - if you spot a better approach or have ideas to improve the product, we want you to speak up
- Willingness to learn new tools and technologies quickly as guided by the Senior Developer
- Good communication - you need to coordinate with the Senior Developer clearly, ask questions when unsure, and provide regular progress updates
- Comfortable working in a startup environment - no fixed processes, fast-paced, and hands-on
- Ego-free attitude - you will be the junior in the team. You need to be comfortable receiving feedback, corrections, and directions while also being confident enough to share your own ideas
