Role Description
This is an entry-level role for a Trainee / Junior Embedded Software Engineer. You will be trained on and gradually contribute to Linux kernel and device driver work — writing and modifying kernel modules, instrumenting existing drivers, reproducing and narrowing down bugs reported upstream, and helping prepare fixes for open source submission. Day-to-day work involves reading kernel source, building and booting kernels, capturing and interpreting dmesg output, and documenting findings clearly. You will work closely with senior engineers, receive structured mentoring, and progress from guided tasks to independent subsystem work.
Full-time hybrid role based in Bengaluru (ITPL), with flexibility for some work from home.
Qualifications
- Strong command of C — pointers, memory layout, structures, function pointers, bit manipulation. This is the only mandatory technical skill.
- Solid grasp of data structures and basic algorithms.
- Comfort working on Linux from the command line (compiling, running, navigating a source tree).
- Willingness to read large existing codebases and debug patiently.
- Clear written and verbal communication; ability to document what you tried and what you observed.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. 2024–2026 pass-outs welcome. Career-break candidates welcome.
Good to have
- Exposure to Linux system programming (processes, IPC, file I/O, sockets)
- Familiarity with gdb, strace, or Git
- Any prior work with microcontrollers, Raspberry Pi, or BeagleBone
- Basic understanding of computer architecture or operating systems coursework
