About the Role
Are you a highly analytical systems-thinker who loves reverse-engineering how things work? As our Data Lineage Associate (formerly Horizontal Data Lineage Specialist), your mandate is to map the unbroken "horizontal data lineage" that shows exactly how a specific data element reached its final state, creating a blueprint for our automation engine. You will be the ultimate detective, tracing data backward from its final output to its origin to ensure there are zero gaps in our system architecture.
Primary Responsibilities
- Identify the End Goal: Identify the End Document (ED) as the final proof of success and isolate its Critical Data Elements (CDEs).
- Reverse-Engineer Data Paths: Trace the immediate Predecessor Data (PD) step-by-step backward until reaching the Ultimate Source Document (SD).
- Document the Flow: Document the Source Container (e.g., system, database) and write the one-line Action for every step in the backward trace.
- Ensure an Unbroken Chain: Verify there are no "jumps" in the lineage map; every data point must link back to an immediate precursor
- Capture Data Transformations: Expose any changes in data value (e.g., Gross to Net) as a distinct Transformation step in the lineage.
Core Competencies
- Technical Skills / Tools: Strong understanding of database structures, data mapping, Excel/Google Sheets, and analytical tools.
- Unbroken Chain of Custody: The ability to systematically verify an unbroken lineage by tracing data step-by-step backwards from its final state. Ability to systematically document Source Containers and data values.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, highly logical problem-solving abilities, and a strict commitment to documenting "what" moves rather than "who" moves it.
- Required Mindset: You must always start from the end and trace backwards; you will never start a track by asking "What happens first?".
Onboarding & Success Path
Selected candidates must successfully complete a mandatory structured onboarding and training program. Engagement and progress during onboarding are closely monitored and form part of the probation evaluation. Failure to complete required training or demonstrate sufficient involvement may result in the offer being withdrawn.
