Junior Custodian II/Floater – Nights
The Town of Natick’s Facilities Department is seeking a dedicated, dependable, and motivated self-starter to join its custodial team. The successful candidate will perform custodial and general building operations within assigned facilities, including routine and emergency cleaning, event support, and light maintenance.
The Junior Custodian II/Floater provides coverage for other Junior Custodian II positions as needed and must be flexible in working across assigned facilities. The position may also provide directions to Junior Custodian I staff and temporary or part-time employees.
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 2:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Reports To: Principal/Designated Operational Lead, Senior Custodian, or Custodial Supervisor
Supervises: May lead assigned Junior Custodian I staff and temporary, seasonal, or part-time employees.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
- Perform custodial and building operations in assigned facilities, including routine and emergency cleaning, event functions, and general maintenance.
- Perform custodial duties including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, waxing, carpet and window cleaning, dusting, polishing, and removal of trash, recycling, and compostable materials.
- Perform light and preventive maintenance on building systems, equipment, and machinery, including lubrication, filter replacement, light bulb replacement, and minor repairs.
- Operate Building Management Systems (BMS) and work order systems and utilize Google Workspace as required.
- Maintain working knowledge of building operations, equipment, and systems, including boiler operations.
- Perform exterior grounds maintenance, mowing, roof drain clearing, and required snow and ice removal.
- Assist with the movement, setup, and relocation of furniture, equipment, machinery, and other materials.
- Provide coverage for other Junior Custodian II positions and assigned facilities as needed.
- May provide direction and assistance to Junior Custodian I staff and temporary or part-time employees.
- Respond to emergency custodial and building operational needs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of custodial or maintenance experience preferred.
- Valid Class D driver’s license required.
- Successful completion of required fingerprinting and State and Federal CORI/background checks.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to tactfully address questions and daily concerns of building occupants and rental groups.
- Thorough knowledge of commercial, industrial, and office cleaning equipment, materials, and procedures.
- Ability to safely operate commonly used power cleaning equipment.
- Ability to properly use safety devices and personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow established safety practices and procedures.
- Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team, with flexibility to work in different facilities as operational needs require.
Working Conditions
- Ability to work in a standard building environment, including prolonged periods of walking and standing, bending, stooping, and climbing stairs of up to four stories.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to climb and safely work from ladders.
- Ability to perform duties in varying indoor and outdoor conditions, including seasonal weather conditions.
Compensation And Benefits

This is a full-time, non-exempt, benefited position.
Starting Hourly Rate: $23.2504 (Step 1)
Full Pay Range: $23.2504 – $28.4334 per hour
Step increases are provided in accordance with the applicable union agreement.
