About Xavolt
Xavolt Energy is developing India's first next-generation room-temperature sodium-sulfur battery (RT NaS) technology. Our mission is to build sustainable, low-cost, high-energy-density batteries using earth-abundant materials while creating indigenous technology for global energy storage applications. We aim to support India's emergence as a global hub for next-generation battery technologies.
Role Overview
As an R&D Research Scientist, you will work closely with our battery development team to design, synthesize, characterize, and optimize advanced materials for room-temperature sodium-sulfur batteries. You will be responsible for translating research ideas into functional battery prototypes while ensuring that project milestones are achieved on schedule.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a laboratory environment (hands-on), is technically rigorous, communicates effectively, and thrives in a fast-paced startup.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and optimize cell materials, including cathodes, electrolytes, and separators
- Fabricate coin and pouch cells for electrochemical characterization
- Perform various electrochemical tests, including EIS, CV, and GCD
- Analyze experimental data and recommend improvements
- Prepare experimental reports, SOPs, and maintain accurate laboratory documentation
- Maintain laboratory safety and follow good research practices
- Contribute to patents, publications, and technology development where applicable
Required Qualifications
- At least 1 year of experience in a research laboratory or the battery industry
- Strong foundation in research and development (R&D), with experience designing experiments and interpreting scientific data
- Proficient laboratory skills, including handling chemicals, operating analytical instruments, and maintaining accurate experimental records
- Solid knowledge of chemistry, particularly electrochemistry, materials science, or related fields relevant to battery technology
- Master’s or PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Relevant industry or postdoctoral experience is an added advantage
- Prior experience with sodium-sulfur, lithium-sulfur, or related battery technologies is preferred.
- Experience with energy storage, batteries, or electrochemical systems is highly desirable
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills, with a commitment to safety, integrity, and continuous learning
Preferred Skills
Experience in one or more of the following is desirable:
- Sodium/ Lithium-Sulfur batteries
- Sodium/ lithium-ion batteries
- Polymer electrolytes
- Electrode formulation and slurry preparation
- Cell fabrication and electrochemical analysis
