The Albuquerque Journal is seeking an Education Reporter to cover the stories shaping our schools, students, and families. If you’re passionate about community journalism and driven to explain how education policies and classroom realities impact everyday lives, this role is for you. 

What You'll Do

• Research and develop story ideas by monitoring news trends, local events, and community issues.
• Write clear, accurate, and engaging news articles, features, and other content.
• Conduct interviews and verify information to meet journalistic standards.
• Participate in live coverage of breaking news and events as needed.
• Ensure all print deadlines are met in coordination with editors.
• Work closely with editors, photographers, and other team members to produce high-quality reporting.
• Build and maintain relationships with community members, organizations, and public officials.

Requirements

What You Bring

• Excellent writing, research, and interviewing skills
• Familiarity with AP Style and strong news judgment
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and tight deadlines
• Experience with CMS tools, social media, and basic multimedia
• Strong communication skills and comfort engaging with diverse sources
   

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or related field
• Previous newsroom experience 
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
