Custodian

Status: Regular, Full-time, Non-Exempt

Position summary: The Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of assigned facilities, ensuring a sanitary and welcoming environment for staff, residents, and visitors. This role performs routine and scheduled cleaning tasks across a variety of spaces, including offices, restrooms, hallways, and common areas, while also completing specialized floor and carpet care. The Custodian operates cleaning equipment and follows established schedules and supervisor direction to meet facility standards.

Qualifications:

• A Christian with strong convictions who is also in agreement with Josiah White’s mission statement, Statement of Faith, and Code of Conduct. 

• Must be 21 years of age or older.

• A high school diploma is required.

• One to three years of previous custodial experience is required.

Essential job functions:

• Facility Cleaning: Clean and sanitize assigned areas including offices, restrooms, hallways, stairways, and common spaces according to established standards.

• Floor Care Maintenance: Maintain hard surface floors through sweeping, mopping, buffing, and burnishing as scheduled, and perform routine carpet maintenance including vacuuming, spot cleaning, and extraction as required.

• Equipment Operation: Safely operate cleaning equipment such as rotos, burnishers, vacuums, and extractors to complete assigned tasks.

• Project and Deep Cleaning: Complete periodic project work and deep cleaning assignments as directed by the supervisor.

• Task and Schedule Compliance: Follow posted cleaning schedules and complete all duties in a timely and efficient manner.

• General Support Duties: Perform additional cleaning or maintenance-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor. 

Work Schedule:  This position requires, on average, 40 hours per week. Normal work hours are Monday through Friday from 7 am to 3:30 pm, but may include occasional weekend hours for event support. Work holidays as scheduled. Depending on the project cycles and workflow demands, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be required. 

Physical Demands & Work Environment: The employee in this role will work in a variety of indoor environments such as offices, restrooms, hallways, stairways, and common areas; occasional outdoor tasks may be required. The employee must be able to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift; frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and reach to clean surfaces; lift, carry, and move cleaning supplies, equipment, and trash bags (up to 25-50 pounds); push and pull equipment such as vacuums, buffers, and carts; and climb stairs, step stools, or ladders.
