The Jigs & Fixture Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and improving jigs and fixtures to support accurate, repeatable, and efficient manufacturing processes in sheet metal fabrication.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop jigs, fixtures, and tooling for welding, bending, and assembly operations
- Create 2D & 3D drawings using CAD software (AutoCAD / SolidWorks / SolidEdge)
- Ensure fixtures meet dimensional accuracy and quality requirements
- Work closely with Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams to understand requirements
- Support new product development (NPD) by designing suitable tooling
- Improve existing fixtures to enhance productivity and reduce cycle time
- Conduct trial runs and validation of jigs and fixtures
- Ensure proper ergonomics and safety standards in fixture design
- Coordinate with vendors for tool fabrication and modification
- Maintain design documents, BOM, and revision control
Skills Required:
- Strong knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes (laser, bending, welding)
- Expertise in jig & fixture design concepts
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks / AutoCAD / Creo)
- Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
- Problem-solving and analytical skills
- Knowledge of materials, tolerances, and manufacturing methods
Qualification:
- Diploma / BE in Mechanical Engineering
Experience:
- 2–5 years in Jig & Fixture Design / Tool Design (Sheet metal preferred)
Preferred:
- Experience in welding fixtures and assembly fixtures
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing & Kaizen
- Exposure to heavy fabrication industry
