About the Role
We are looking for a seasoned Lead Java Backend Engineer to join our growing engineering team. In this role, you will spearhead the design and delivery of high-performance, scalable backend systems while mentoring a team of talented engineers. You will be a key technical
voice, shaping architecture decisions and driving engineering excellence across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
•Lead end-to-end design, development, and delivery of robust Java-based backend services and APIs.
•Architect scalable, highly available microservices and distributed systems.
•Define and enforce coding standards, best practices, and design patterns across the team.
•Mentor and guide a team of 5–10 backend engineers through code reviews, design sessions, and 1:1s.
•Collaborate closely with product managers, architects, and cross-functional stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions.
•Own and drive the backend technical roadmap and contribute to Architectural Decision Records (ADRs).
•Optimize system performance, scalability, and reliability – ensuring SLA/SLO adherence.
•Ensure backend systems meet security, compliance, and audit requirements.
•Evaluate and introduce new technologies and frameworks to modernize the stack.
•Champion CI/CD practices, DevOps culture, and a test-first engineering mindset.
Must-Have Qualifications
•10+ years of professional Java backend development experience (Java 11 / 17 / 21).
•Deep expertise in Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Security, and Hibernate/JPA.
•Proven experience designing and building microservices and RESTful / gRPC APIs.
•Strong proficiency with relational databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL) and NoSQL stores (Redis, MongoDB, Cassandra).
•Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka or other messaging/event-streaming platforms.
•Solid experience with Docker and Kubernetes (or OpenShift) for containerization and orchestration.
•Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams and delivering large-scale distributed systems in production.
•Strong foundations in data structures, algorithms, and system design (CAP theorem, eventual consistency, distributed transactions).
•Experience with CI/CD pipelines – Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions.
•Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
•Experience in capital markets, fintech, or financial services domain.
•Familiarity with cloud platforms – AWS, GCP, or Azure (ideally AWS-certified).
•Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Helm).
•Experience with reactive programming – Project Reactor or RxJava.
•Exposure to Python or Kotlin as secondary languages.
•Contributions to open-source Java projects or libraries.
•Experience with GraphQL API design.
