Elaborated Job Description – Engineering Manager (9+ Years Experience)
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead and scale software engineering teams working on complex, enterprise-grade supply chain solutions. This role requires a strong balance of technical depth, people leadership, Agile execution, and delivery ownership. The Engineering Manager will be responsible for end-to-end delivery, team productivity, Agile maturity, and collaboration with Product, Architecture, and Business stakeholders. The candidate must demonstrate a hands-on leadership approach, with the ability to step into technical discussions and, when needed, contribute directly to development activities.
1. Core Technical & Leadership Skills (Must-Have)
A. Engineering Leadership
• 12–18 years of experience in software engineering, with at least 4–6 years in an Engineering Manager or equivalent leadership role
• Proven experience managing multiple teams (10–30+ engineers) across distributed or hybrid setups
• Strong ownership of delivery, quality, and team performance
• Ability to recruit, mentor, coach, and retain high-performing engineering talent
B. Technical Expertise
• Strong background in backend engineering, preferably with:
o Java / JVM-based ecosystems (Spring, Microservices) o REST APIs, event-driven architectures
• Working knowledge of: o Cloud-native architectures (AWS / Azure preferred) o CI/CD pipelines and DevOps best practices o Databases (relational and NoSQL)
• Ability to actively engage in: o Code reviews o Design discussions o Architecture and performance trade-off decisions Engineering Managers are expected to be technically credible and able to do hands-on contributions when required.
2. Agile & Delivery Management
• Strong hands-on experience with Agile / Scrum methodologies
• Ownership of: o Backlog refinement o Sprint planning & estimation o Capacity planning o Sprint execution and retrospectives
• Ability to translate: o Product vision and epics o Into well-structured user stories with clear acceptance criteria
• Ensure predictable and sustainable delivery velocity across teams
• Continuously improve Agile maturity, engineering practices, and team efficiency
3. Delivery Excellence & Productivity
• Drive high standards of: o Code quality o Test automation o Documentation o Release discipline
• Actively track and manage: o Sprint velocity o Delivery predictability o Defect rates o Technical debt
• Proactively identify delivery risks and address them early
• Ensure teams operate at optimal efficiency while maintaining quality
4. Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
• Work closely with: o Product Managers o Architects o UX / QA o Business stakeholders
• Act as the single-point owner for engineering delivery
• Clearly communicate: o Progress o Risks o Dependencies o Trade-offs
• Foster a culture of transparency, accountability, and continuous feedback
5. Domain Knowledge (Preferred)
• Experience in Supply Chain, Logistics, or Enterprise SaaS platforms is a strong plus
• Exposure to domains such as: o Transport Management Systems (TMS) o Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) o Network Design o Inventory & Capacity Planning
• Ability to understand and align engineering decisions with business use cases

The Engineering Manager will be measured on:
