This role offers unique ownership—from meticulous attention to small details, like selecting precise fasteners, to leading large-scale robotic deployments with footprints of over 100 square meters and budgets reaching half a million euros. Working closely alongside our founding team, you’ll have the opportunity to see your designs come to life internationally, significantly impacting warehouses and factories globally. This position is based in Hamburg and involves travel (approximately 25–50%). We offer a competitive annual salary between EUR 60,000 and EUR 100,000, meaningful equity participation, comprehensive benefits, and limitless growth opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end mechanical design activities, from concept through prototyping, testing, and deployment.
  • Execute robotic system integration projects for pilots, customer demonstrations, trade shows, and internal developments.
  • Manage Jacobi’s mechanical labs and facilities, ensuring readiness for innovative projects.
  • Oversee hardware procurement, quality assurance, and logistics.
  • Support international installations, troubleshoot on-site challenges, and collaborate directly with customers and partners.
  • Proactively identify, manage, and mitigate project risks, ensuring successful and timely project completion.

Qualifications

I. Engineering and Design Fundamentals

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, Fusion 360) and ability to produce accurate technical drawings.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical prototyping, assembly, and testing.
  • Understanding of materials selection, tolerances, and appropriate manufacturing methods.

II. Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills

  • Ability to perform basic back-of-the-envelope calculations and analysis.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and resourcefulness.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to precision and quality.

III. Adaptability and Startup Environment

  • High-energy, proactive style, comfortable with fast-paced startup environments.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, quickly grasp new technologies, and adapt solutions to evolving requirements.

IV. Programming, Automation, and Technical Support

  • Demonstrable experience with Python.
  • Knowledge of Linux or other UNIX-like systems is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with robot arm programming languages (e.g., RAPID, KRL, INFORM, Karel, URScript), C++, PLC programming, and version control (Git) is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of computer networking with a willingness to troubleshoot connectivity problems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic electrical issues, including connection of robot I/O, robot safety, and controls cabinets.

V. Additional Qualifications and Preferences

  • Prior experience in robotics or automation systems integration is desirable.
  • Familiarity with project management, budgeting, procurement, and vendor management processes is desirable.
  • A native German speaker and fluent in English, with strong written and verbal communication skills, is required.
