As an IT Officer in BSM, you will provide reliable, secure and user-focused technology support across the organisation. The successful candidate will maintain IT systems, support users, manage hardware and software, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the organisation’s IT infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide first- and second-line IT support to employees, resolving hardware, software, network and access issues.
- Respond to service desk requests, diagnose faults and manage incidents through to resolution within agreed service levels.
- Install, configure and maintain computers, laptops, mobile devices, printers, peripherals and other IT equipment.
- Administer user accounts, permissions, email accounts and access to business applications.
- Support Microsoft 365, Windows operating systems, cloud services and other organisational systems.
- Monitor IT systems, networks and security controls, escalating complex issues where required.
- Assist with system updates, software deployments, backups, disaster recovery and business continuity procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of IT assets, licences, configurations, incidents and support activity.
- Help implement and maintain cybersecurity policies, including endpoint protection, password management and access control.
- Provide clear guidance, training and technical advice to users with varying levels of IT experience.
- Work with external suppliers and service providers to coordinate maintenance, repairs and technical support.
- Contribute to IT projects, system upgrades and process improvements.
Skills and Experience
- Previous experience in an IT support, IT technician, service desk or IT officer role.
- Strong knowledge of Windows operating systems, Microsoft 365 and common business applications.
- Practical understanding of computer hardware, networking, Wi-Fi, printers and mobile devices.
- Experience with user account administration, permissions and identity management.
- Awareness of IT security principles, data protection and secure technology practices.
- Experience using service desk or ticket management systems.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritise competing requests.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to explain technical information clearly to non-technical users.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a wider team.
Desirable Qualifications
- A relevant qualification in information technology, computer science or a related subject.
- CompTIA A+, Network+ or Security+ certification.
- Microsoft certification, such as Microsoft 365 Fundamentals or an equivalent qualification.
- ITIL Foundation certification or experience working within IT service management processes.
- Experience supporting cloud-based systems, virtual environments or network infrastructure.
