JOB SUMMARY
Maintain beautification areas, sprinkler system, and drip irrigation for Mission City Parks, engage in parks maintenance and other work assignments. Individual will be performing other duties assigned by the supervisor/department head when needed.
Qualifications
JOB SUMMARY Maintain beautification areas, sprinkler system, and drip irrigation for Mission City Parks, engage in parks maintenance and other work assignments. Individual will be performing other duties assigned by the supervisor/department head when needed. II. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or G.E.D. required. Applicant must have a minimum of three (3) years experience working with irrigation systems. Applicant must have experience and knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics related to an irrigation systems including automatic valves and controllers. Applicant must have experience and knowledge of various types of pumping systems. Applicant must have basic knowledge of backflow, pressure back and back siphonage principals. Applicant must have basic knowledge of agronomy turf grass science. Applicant must have at least two (2) years of landscaping experience and knowledge of tools, methods and materials used in grounds to landscape and to maintain parks. Applicant must have basic knowledge of installation and repair of drinking fountains, faucets, showers and toilets. EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS Applicant will be subject to a complete background investigation. Incomplete, inaccurate and/or failure to report information will cause the applicant rejection from consideration. Applicant must take and pass a drug, physical, and pre-placement screenings administered by the City of Mission doctor at the City’s expense. Applicant must have a neat and professional appearance. Applicant must have a current valid class “C” driver’s license from the department of Public Safety with no more than two (2) moving traffic violations within the past two (2) years. IV. SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS Ability to follow a firm work schedule as directed by supervisor. Ability to read technical manuals and schematics. Ability to operate light motorized equipment. Ability to follow instructions orally or in written form and perform tasks with little or no supervision. Ability to deal with the public and various types of citizen inquiries tactfully, courteously, and in a business matter. Ability to recognize, analyze and solve problems pertaining to the maintenance and operation of Parks irrigation systems. Ability to use automatic pump stations, sub-controllers electric valves, sprinkler heads and their components. Ability to install and repair PVC fitting and control cable pipes within Mission Parks. Ability to perform a wide variety of different types of tasks without the variety itself causing a loss of efficiency. Ability to make decisions based on available data/criteria, laws and regulations or city policy. Ability to handle special projects of diverse nature as assigned. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and city policy procedures. Ensures completion of work orders.
Special Requirements
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Programs water pump station manually for irrigation of Mission Parks. Performs monthly, quarterly and annual preventative maintenance of all element units of irrigation systems. Disassembles and assembles some units to perform preventative maintenance and repairs. Maintains and repairs pumps, sub-controllers, irrigation lines and control cables. Digs ditches to inspect and repair irrigation lines and control cables. Performs low voltage electrical diagnosis. Installs and repairs faucets, drinking fountains, showers and toilets. Reports potentially unsafe conditions. May engage in other park maintenance duties as assigned by his supervisor which may include lawn maintenance duties such as mowing, weed eating, tree and shrub trimming and other related duties. Applicant will be on call when needed and may work on evenings or weekends as needed. NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS None EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS General safety equipment/materials may include but not limited to the following: City vehicle, Hard hat, Tool pouch Volt and OMH meter, 12” long hose pliers, Shovel Cell phone, Sprinklers, Sprinkler heads Electrical equipment, Electric valves, Drill Water pumps, PVC fittings, Pens, pencils Uniform, Toe Steel Boots, Manuals Riding mower, Blower, Weed eater Pole saw, Chain saw, Irrigation timers Sprayer, Trencher, Auger Policy & procedure handbook, Backhoe Tractor VIII. WORK ENVIRONMENT Exposure to the following environmental conditions are required for this job. The individual works mainly out doors maintaining parks. Working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday, but on many occasions individual will continue working after 5:00 p. m. and on weekends for special projects/events assigned by supervisor.
