About The Role
To provide high quality assistance to students, families and staff in the area of transition towards post high school outcomes. This position will coordinate transition information and direction with students, families and staff on IEP's, Career Cruising, EDP, STIRR, or other transition assessments. Will work cooperatively with students, families, staff, MRS, and other community resource staff in developing student post high school direction such as post-secondary training, work, community involvement, etc.
Qualifications Desired
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Additional course work or ETS certification preferred
- Behavior management and public relation skills preferred
- Experience in Work Based Learning (WBL), risk management and/or working with high school aged students preferred
- Interpersonal skills which promote positive personal relationships with students, parents, staff and community is required

JOB TITLE: Transition Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Special Education
REPORTS TO: Administrator of Accountability & Program Improvement
WORK LOCATION: As assigned by Supervisor
WORK SCHEDULE: July 1 – June 30; up to 204 days
SALARY SCHEDULE: Salary and benefits in accordance with the IISPA Master Contract
QUALIFICATIONS:
● High School diploma or equivalent
● Additional course work or ETS Certification
● Behavior management skills;
● Ability to interact professionally and positively with students and staff, business
community.
● Good public relations skills;
● Reliable transportation and willingness to drive to various job sites.
● Risk management and labor law knowledge.
● Minimum 4-5 years working with high school aged students
● Experience in Work Based Learning (WBL)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Provide assistance to students, families and staff in the area of transition
towards post high school outcomes
● Coordinate transition information and direction with students, families and staff. (IEPs,
Career Cruising, EDP, STIRR or other transition assessments etc.)
● Work cooperatively with student, families, school staff, MRS and other community
resource staff in developing student post high school direction. (Post-secondary
training, work, community involvement, etc.)
● Provide individual and group instruction to students as directed by the Transition
Specialist or district professional staff

● Implement transition activities in a manner which addresses optimum learning
experiences for students
● Serve as a positive model for students by participation in general student activities,
demonstrations, and overall conduct throughout the school day
● Demonstrate competency in behavioral management and maintain control of students
assigned to his/her care
● Provide supervision and assistance to students as appropriate and necessary during the
boarding and unboarding of buses, at mealtime, recess, in lavatories, and on field trips
● Assume initiative in providing input to professional staff relative to student performance
and general program ideas
● Communicate relevant transition-related information to parents, high school staff, and
MRS Counselors
● Assist eligible participants in finding employment. These clients may include high school
students and graduates
● Advise on necessary accommodations at worksites
● Provide job coaching for students in paid and unpaid employment worksites
● Provide quarterly report on student status to MRS using guidelines provided by MRS
● Participate in staff meetings with MRS staff and Transition Coordinator.
● Conduct self in a professional manner and maintain a positive image during the work
day and at all work-related activities
● Abide by all district policies and procedures
● Other duties as assigned by Supervisor
● Regular and consistent on site attendance is essential to perform job duties and
responsibilities

TRAVEL:

EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated by the immediate supervisor in accordance with provisions
established by administration/contract.
