Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Cognos Developer to join our Business Intelligence team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in IBM Cognos Analytics, data modeling, and dashboard/report development, and will play a key role in designing and delivering enterprise-wide reporting solutions. You will work closely with business stakeholders and data engineers to translate requirements into scalable BI assets that drive business insights and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain Cognos Framework Manager models, reports, dashboards, and visualizations.
- Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to gather and translate requirements into functional BI solutions.
- Optimize Cognos queries and performance-tune reports for scalability and efficiency.
- Integrate Cognos with various data sources (e.g., data warehouse, relational databases, APIs).
- Implement and maintain data security and user access controls within Cognos.
- Participate in data governance and quality initiatives ensuring accurate and trusted reporting.
- Troubleshoot and resolve Cognos-related issues, bugs, and performance bottlenecks.
- Mentor junior developers and provide technical guidance on best practices.
- Stay up to date with the latest Cognos features and BI trends, recommending upgrades and new solutions when appropriate.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience developing with IBM Cognos Analytics (v11.x preferred).
- Strong expertise in Framework Manager, Report Studio, Active Reports, and Dashboards.
- Solid understanding of data modeling concepts (star/snowflake schemas) and relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle).
- Advanced SQL skills and ability to write complex queries.
- Familiarity with ETL tools, data warehousing, and data governance principles.
- Experience working in Agile environments and collaborating using tools like JIRA or Azure DevOps.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience integrating Cognos with Power BI, Tableau, or other BI tools.
- Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure) and modern data lake/data warehouse architectures.
- Knowledge of Python or R for advanced analytics is a plus.
- Cognos or IBM certifications are highly desirable.
