Role Overview
We are seeking a sharp, high-potential Investment Associate to join our team in Chennai. This is a foundational role for someone looking to build a career in the "Zero-to-One" venture space. Unlike later-stage roles that rely purely on historical data, you will focus on qualitative conviction - evaluating the strength of B2B products and the grit of the founders behind them. You will be the primary engine behind our investment memos and a visible representative of our syndicate in the Chennai tech community and beyond.
The Ideal Profile
We are looking for a "high-output" individual with 1 - 2 years of professional experience who is obsessed with how B2B technology is built and sold. You must be an exceptional writer and a confident speaker - someone who enjoys deconstructing a complex product and explaining its value to others. The ideal candidate has a "hunter" mindset for information; you don't wait for data to be handed to you, you go out and find it through interviews and research. While you should understand the basics of a cap table and a P&L, your greatest strength will be your ability to build a qualitative case for an investment before the rest of the market catches on.
Primary Focus: (80% of Role)
1. Qualitative "Deep Dives"
- Product-Market Resonance: Analyse B2B workflows to determine if a startup is solving a "hair-on-fire" problem. You will speak with potential users and industry experts to validate the "Need-to-Have" factor.
- Founder Assessment: Evaluate early-stage teams on their technical competence, coachability, and ability to sell to enterprise clients.
- Competitive Moats: Research the B2B landscape to determine whether a startup has a genuine unfair advantage - whether through proprietary tech, deep integration, or a unique distribution edge.
2. Articulation & Investment Memos
- The "Conviction Narrative": Transform raw data and meeting notes into polished, persuasive investment memos. You must be able to tell a compelling story about why a deal makes sense despite its early-stage risks.
- Synthesising Metrics: While the focus is qualitative, you will review early B2B metrics (LOIs, pilot conversions, and initial ACV) to ensure the financial logic supports the narrative.
3. Brand Ambassador & Public Presence
- Events & Networking: Actively represent the syndicate at Chennai-based tech events, demo days, and incubators. You are the first point of contact for many founders and peers.
- Content & Online Presence: Help draft thought-leadership pieces and participate in online sessions/webinars to showcase our investment thesis to the startup community.
Secondary Focus: 20% of Role
- Portfolio Tracking: Maintain regular touchpoints with portfolio founders to gather monthly updates and support their preparation for follow-on funding.
- Internal Database: Ensure our CRM is meticulously updated with every interaction, founder feedback, and market insight you gather.
