Safeguards Inspector

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is the world's central intergovernmental forum for scientific and technical cooperation in the nuclear field. The IAEA's Department of Safeguards is responsible for implementing the IAEA's nuclear verification and monitoring activities under the nuclear non-proliferation regime. The IAEA is seeking to recruit highly qualified and motivated professionals to join the Safeguards Inspectorate, including at the entry-level Professional category, to serve as Safeguards Inspectors. Safeguards Inspectors travel frequently to nuclear facilities worldwide to verify that nuclear material and activities are used only for peaceful purposes. The main responsibilities of a Safeguards Inspector include: • Conducting inspections and complementary access at nuclear facilities and sites in accordance with established safeguards approaches and procedures; • Collecting factual information on the operation of nuclear facilities and the nuclear fuel cycle through onsite verification activities and review of operator records and reports; • Analyzing data and information to assess the consistency between declared and observed nuclear activities and material; • Preparing factual reports on inspection and complementary access activities; • Providing technical advice and input to the development of safeguards concepts, approaches and procedures; • Participating in technical meetings, workshops and training activities, as required.
