Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop interior plastic trim parts (IP, door trims, consoles, pillars, garnish, bezels, etc.)
- Interpret Class A / B / C surface data and convert into feasible plastic designs
- Perform part design considering DFM, DFA, and DFMEA requirements
- Ensure compliance with OEM standards, safety, regulatory, and quality requirements
- Work on material selection (ABS, PP, PC-ABS, TPO, etc.) and surface finishes
- Coordinate with tooling, manufacturing, and suppliers during development and trials
- Review mold feasibility, parting lines, draft analysis, wall thickness, ribs, bosses, and snap features
- Support prototype builds, tooling trials, and production ramp-up
- Resolve fit, finish, gap & flushness, and warpage issues
- Participate in design reviews, change management, and issue resolution
- Prepare and maintain engineering documentation and BOMs
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of plastic part design guidelines
- Experience in automotive interior trim development
- Proficiency in CAD tools CATIA V5
- Understanding of injection molding processes and tooling concepts
- Knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack-up
- Familiarity with OEM development processes and APQP
- Ability to work with suppliers and cross-functional teams
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical / Automotive / Plastics Engineering
- Experience working with OEMs or Tier-1 suppliers
- Exposure to interior aesthetics, scratch resistance, grain, and color matching
- Knowledge of validation testing and quality tools (PFMEA, DFMEA, 8D)
