About Interior Company by Square Yards
Square Yards is India's largest integrated platform for Real Estate and Mortgages and a PropTech Unicorn. Interior Company is our design-tech arm. We are not just an interior design firm; we are a technology company that streamlines interiors. To do this, we build proprietary 3D planners, cloud-based render engines, and automated BOQ generators. We need a Design Technologist to sit at the intersection of Art and Code.
Role Overview
As a Design Technologist, you are the bridge between the Creative Design Team and the Software Engineering Team. You are a "Power User" of design software who understands exactly how a 3D model works under the hood.
Note: This is not a completely creative interior design role. You will be testing, validating, and optimizing the software tools that thousands of other designers will use.
Key Responsibilities
1. 3D Technical Validation & Optimization (QA)
- Geometry Analysis: Analyze 3D models (furniture, fixtures) created in SketchUp or 3ds Max to ensure they are optimized for our web-based planner.
- Performance Testing: Identify "heavy" assets (high poly-counts, unoptimized textures, bad topology) that cause lag or crashes, and fix them.
- Material Standardization: Validate that PBR materials, UV maps, and texture scales are technically correct for realistic rendering in V-Ray/Corona and our proprietary engine.
- Platform QA: Conduct rigorous User Acceptance Testing (UAT) on new software releases. You are the final gatekeeper before a feature goes live to the designers.
2. Product Support & Workflow Enablement
- Technical Troubleshooting: Serve as the Level-2 support expert for the design team when they encounter software errors (e.g., "Export failed," "Render is black," "Wall snapping issue").
- Root Cause Analysis: When a bug is reported, your job is to replicate it, isolate the cause (Is it the user? Is it the file? Is it the code?), and report it to the developers.
- Knowledge Transfer: Create technical guidelines on "Best Practices for Modeling" to ensure the design team creates clean, usable files.
3. Feature Innovation
- Act as the "Super User." Push the software to its limits to find breaking points.
- Translate design requirements into technical specs for the product managers (e.g., explaining how a "Loft" command should function in our tool compared to 3ds Max).
Candidate Profile
Essential Technical Skills (Must Have)
- Advanced Proficiency in SketchUp & 3ds Max: You must be able to model complex shapes, unwrap UVs, and manage layers/groups flawlessly.
- Rendering Knowledge: Deep understanding of V-Ray, Corona, or similar engines (lighting hierarchy, exposure settings, material nodes).
- Technical Eye: You understand the difference between a high-poly mesh and a low-poly game asset. You know what .obj, .fbx, .glb, and .skp file structures look like.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or Digital Design.
- 0 to 2 years of experience in an Interior Design or 3D Visualization role.
- Experience in Modular Furniture (Kitchen/Wardrobe) technical details is highly preferred.
Personality Traits
- The "Debugger" Mindset: You get satisfaction from figuring out why a file is broken.
- Structured Thinker: You can document bugs clearly (Steps to Reproduce > Expected Result > Actual Result).
- Tech Enthusiast: You are likely the person your colleagues come to when their computer freezes or software crashes.
What We Offer
- A New Career Trajectory: Move from being a user of tools to a builder of tools. This is a stepping stone into Product Management.
- Scale: Your work will impact the workflow of thousands of designers across India and the Middle East.
- Competitive Salary with performance-based growth.
- High-Energy Culture: Work with top-tier developers and product minds in a Unicorn startup.
Probation Policy
- Duration: 3 Months.
- Objective: Successful completion involves mastering our internal technology stack and demonstrating the ability to resolve live support tickets and technical QA tasks independently.
