Senior Integration & Automation Engineer (Workato + AI)
Job Overview
We are looking for a Senior Integration & Automation Engineer with strong Workato expertise to design and build scalable enterprise integrations and intelligent automation workflows.
This role requires hands-on experience with Workato platform development, custom connectors using Workato SDK, API integrations, and AI-powered automation using Workato Genie.
The ideal candidate will lead the development of robust, secure, and high-performance automation solutions, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver enterprise-grade integrations.
Key Responsibilities
Integration Architecture
- Design scalable automation and integration solutions using Workato.
- Define best practices for recipe design, modular automation, and reusable components.
- Implement integration patterns including event-driven, real-time, and batch integrations.
Workato Development
- Build advanced automation workflows using recipes, callable recipes, lookup tables, and data stores.
- Develop custom connectors using Workato SDK.
- Create reusable automation components and frameworks for enterprise integrations.
AI Automation (Workato Genie)
- Design AI-powered workflows using Workato Genie.
- Implement automations involving AI-driven decision making, document processing, summarization, and contextual routing.
- Integrate Workato with AI/LLM APIs and external AI services where needed.
API & Enterprise System Integration
- Integrate with enterprise platforms including Salesforce, NetSuite, Workday, Zendesk, SAP, ServiceNow, and Microsoft 365.
- Work with REST/SOAP APIs, webhooks, and event-based integrations.
- Implement secure authentication including OAuth2, JWT, and API tokens.
Reliability, Performance & Governance
- Design integrations with robust error handling, retry mechanisms, and monitoring.
- Optimize recipe performance and handle API rate limits and concurrency.
- Implement governance practices for environment management, logging, and integration lifecycle.
Mentorship & Collaboration
- Conduct code reviews and mentor junior developers.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and business teams to deliver scalable automation solutions.
- Maintain technical documentation and integration standards.
Required Skills
Workato Platform Expertise
- Strong hands-on experience with Workato development and automation design.
- Experience building custom connectors using Workato SDK.
- Familiarity with recipes, callable recipes, lookup tables, and data stores.
- Experience managing Dev/Test/Prod environments.
Integration & API Development
- Strong understanding of REST APIs, SOAP APIs, webhooks, and API-based architectures.
- Experience with API authentication, rate limiting, and error handling patterns.
- Strong skills in data transformation using JSON, XML, and relational data.
Scripting & Development
- Proficiency in JavaScript and/or Python for automation logic and custom integrations.
- Experience with API testing tools such as Postman or Swagger.
AI & Automation
- Hands-on experience with Workato Genie or AI-powered automation workflows.
- Understanding of GenAI-driven automation and prompt-based workflows.
Experience
- 5+ years of integration or automation development experience
- 2+ years of hands-on Workato platform experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
Good to Have
- Experience with other iPaaS platforms such as MuleSoft, Dell Boomi, or similar
- Experience integrating ERP and finance systems
- Exposure to AI/LLM APIs (OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, etc.)
- Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile development
- Workato certifications such as Integration Specialist or Automation Pro
