We are seeking a dedicated and experienced IT Manager to join our team.
Role Overview
The IT Manager is responsible for providing strategic direction, governance, and operational oversight of the school’s complete digital and technology ecosystem. This role ensures that technology effectively supports academic excellence, operational efficiency, student safety, and long-term institutional growth.
Working closely with academic and administrative leadership, the IT Manager leads the ICT team and drives innovation while maintaining high standards of system availability, security, reliability, and scalability — essential in a 24x7 residential school environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership & Digital Transformation
- Design and execute a comprehensive ICT and Digital Learning strategy aligned with the school’s vision and long-term goals.
- Partner with academic leadership to integrate technology meaningfully into teaching, learning, and assessment practices to boost efficacy and efficiency.
- Advise school management on emerging technologies and their academic and operational implications.
- Identify, evaluate, and pilot innovative educational technologies, including AI-enabled tools, adaptive learning platforms, and immersive learning solutions. Ensure its adoption by the concerned stakeholders.
- Lead the development of blended and technology-supported pedagogical models.
- Establish a structured approach for innovation pilots, testing, and scale-up.
- Benchmark institutional ICT practices against leading residential schools.
2. ICT Governance & Policy Development
- Ensure development, implementation, and periodic review ICT policies, including:
- Acceptable Use
- Data Privacy & Protection
- Cybersecurity & Incident Management
- BYOD Framework (Bring your own device)
- Backup and Disaster Recovery
- Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and data protection requirements.
- Ensure implementation and continuous monitoring of robust data governance framework covering ownership, classification, lifecycle, and security.
- Conduct periodic risk assessments and present mitigation strategies to leadership.
- Ensure full compliance with software licensing and digital asset management norms.
3. Cybersecurity & Risk Management
- Lead the institution’s cybersecurity strategy and resilience framework.
- Oversee security architecture including firewalls, network segmentation, endpoint security, and surveillance systems.
- Ensure regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing exercises.
- Implement strong backup, disaster recovery, and ransomware prevention systems.
- Ensure continuous monitoring of data security, student digital safety, and safeguarding mechanisms.
- Report cybersecurity risks, incidents, and maturity metrics to school leadership.
- Ensure compliance with evolving data privacy and child online protection regulations.
- Lead crisis response planning for digital and cyber-related emergencies.
4. Infrastructure & Service Operations
- Ensure end-to-end strategic and operational oversight and continuous availability of campus -wide IT infrastructure including:
- Network systems (LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi)
- Servers (on-premises and cloud) and storage systems (SAN)
- Smart classrooms and learning technologies
- Surveillance, biometric, facial recognition, access control, and NVR systems
- ERP, LMS, academic portals and collaboration platforms
- Communication systems including EPABX, VoIP, telephone lines, data networks, and internet connectivity
- End-user computing devices such as desktops, laptops, tablets, printers, UPS systems, audio-visual equipment, webcams, and interactive teaching devices
- Maintain high standards of uptime, performance, reliability, scalability, and service continuity in a 24x7 residential environment.
- Oversee infrastructure upgrades, expansions, refresh cycles, and architectural improvements.
- Define and monitor SLAs, uptime standards, and service performance metrics.
- Establish preventive maintenance, asset lifecycle management, inventory control, and documentation frameworks
- Ensure robust business continuity and disaster recovery planning for uninterrupted academic and campus operations.
5. Academic Technology & Innovation Enablement
- Work closely with academic teams to implement, optimize and continuously improve LMS platforms and digital teaching tools.
- Support online, hybrid, and blended learning initiatives.
- Drive responsible, ethical and effective adoption of AI in education.
- Develop and implement a structured AI roadmap aligned with academic objectives and governance principles.
- Enable faculty capacity-building through structured digital training, workshops, and continuous professional development programs.
- Promote digital literacy, cyber awareness, and responsible technology use among students and staff.
- Lead evaluation, selection and piloting of new EdTech platforms, classroom technologies and digital learning solutions.
6. Financial Planning & Vendor Management
- Prepare and manage the annual ICT budget in alignment with Welham Girls’ School priorities.
- Ensure prudent financial planning, cost optimisation and value realisation from technology investments.
- Evaluate return on investment for ICT initiatives.
- Lead vendor selection, contract negotiation, and performance monitoring.
- Ensure comprehensive warranty, AMC, and service coverage for all ICT, network, surveillance, and communication systems.
7. Team Leadership & Capability Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop the ICT team across infrastructure, applications, network, cybersecurity and support functions.
- Define clear roles, responsibilities, KPIs, escalation matrices, and performance benchmarks.
- Establish strong delegation structures between Manager, Deputy Manager, and technical staff.
- Ensure a culture of continuous self-learning, upskilling and professional development across ICT teams
- Organize technology awareness, cybersecurity and digital citizenship programs for staff and students.
8. Stakeholder Engagement & Institutional Reporting
- Act as the primary technology advisor to Welham Girls’ School. Identify automation opportunities across administrative and academic workflows.
- Present periodic performance, risk, compliance, security and innovation updates.
- Collaborate closely with academic, finance, administration, hostel, and security teams.
- Communicate major system upgrades, outages, and policy changes effectively.
- Enable seamless data integration across ERP, LMS, HR, and Finance platforms.
- Lead long-term planning for smart campus initiatives and digital experience platforms.
- Support digital branding through virtual campus experiences and innovation showcases.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- B.Tech or above in Engineering, Information Technology
Experience
- Minimum 10 years of overall IT experience.
- At least 5 years in leadership or managerial roles.
- Prior experience in educational institutions, residential campuses, or large multi-site environments preferred.
Certifications (Desirable)
- ITIL
- CCNP or equivalent networking certifications
- Microsoft / Azure Certifications
- Cybersecurity Certifications
