Job Title: IT Manager
Department: Information Technology
Reports To: Director
Location: Office with occasional travel to vessels and ports
Job Summary
The IT Manager is responsible for planning, implementing, securing, and maintaining the company's IT infrastructure across shore offices and fleet operations. The role ensures reliable communication between vessels and offices, supports maritime business applications, manages cybersecurity, and drives digital transformation initiatives while complying with maritime industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
IT Infrastructure Management
• Manage office IT infrastructure including servers, networks, storage, cloud services, and end-user devices.
• Ensure high availability of business-critical systems.
• Plan and execute IT upgrades, backups, and disaster recovery.
• Maintain software licenses and IT asset inventory.
Fleet IT Support
• Support onboard IT infrastructure including:
o Satellite communication systems
o Shipboard LAN/Wi-Fi
o Crew internet systems
o Shipboard PCs, printers, and peripherals
• Coordinate with vessel masters, chief engineers, and onboard officers for IT-related issues.
• Arrange remote troubleshooting and onboard service visits when required.
Cybersecurity
• Develop and enforce cybersecurity policies.
• Implement endpoint protection, firewalls, email security, and multi-factor authentication.
• Conduct vulnerability assessments and periodic cybersecurity audits.
• Ensure compliance with maritime cybersecurity guidelines (IMO, BIMCO, etc.).
• Conduct cybersecurity awareness training for office staff and ship crews.
Maritime Software Management
Administer and support applications such as:
• Planned Maintenance System (PMS)
• Procurement and inventory systems
• Crew management software
• Fleet management software
• Document management systems
• Accounting and ERP systems
• Electronic chart and voyage-related applications (where applicable)
Vendor Management
• Manage relationships with IT vendors and satellite communication providers.
• Negotiate annual maintenance contracts and software licenses.
• Monitor vendor performance and service-level agreements.
Helpdesk & User Support
• Provide technical support to office staff and vessels.
• Resolve hardware, software, and network issues.
• Maintain IT documentation and standard operating procedures.
Project Management
• Lead digital transformation initiatives.
• Implement new technologies to improve operational efficiency.
• Manage IT budgets and project timelines.
Compliance & Governance
• Ensure compliance with:
o IMO Cyber Risk Management requirements
o Company ISM procedures
o Data protection regulations
o Internal IT policies
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related discipline.
• 8–12 years of IT experience, preferably with at least 3 years in the maritime or shipping industry.
• Experience supporting both office and vessel IT environments.
Preferred Certifications
• Microsoft Certified
• Cisco CCNA/CCNP
• ITIL Foundation
• CompTIA Security+
• Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) (preferred)
• Microsoft Azure or AWS certifications (preferred)
