Title: Infection Control Nurse (ICN)

Location: HBR Layout / Indranagar, Banglore
Role & Responsibilities
Infection Control Nurse (ICN) plays a critical role in maintaining a safe healthcare environment. This professional is responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring the hospital's infection prevention and control program. The primary objective is to minimize the risk of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) for patients, staff, and visitors through surveillance, protocol enforcement, and ongoing staff education.
Key Responsibilities
- Infection Surveillance & Tracking
- Conduct daily clinical rounds to monitor and track healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) such as Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP), Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI), Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infections (CLABSI), and Surgical Site Infections (SSI).
- Review daily microbiology reports to track multi-drug resistant organisms (MDROs) and alert relevant departments.
- Investigate, manage, and report any suspected or confirmed infectious disease outbreaks within the facility.
- Policy Implementation & Audits
- Ensure strict adherence to standard precautions, contact, droplet, and airborne isolation protocols.
- Conduct regular audits of Hand Hygiene compliance across all clinical and non-clinical departments.
- Monitor biomedical waste (BMW) segregation and disposal practices.
- Evaluate environmental sanitation, cleaning protocols, and Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) processes.
- Staff Education & Training
- Develop and deliver continuous training modules on infection control practices for nurses, doctors, allied health staff, and housekeeping personnel.
- Educate patients, relatives, and visitors on basic infection prevention measures (e.g., handwashing, cough etiquette).
- Act as a clinical resource and mentor for unit staff regarding infection control queries and best practices.
- Data Management & Reporting
- Collect, compile, and analyze infection control data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Prepare comprehensive monthly reports and present findings during the Hospital Infection Control Committee (HICC) meetings.
- Ensure reporting of notifiable diseases to local public health authorities as per government regulations.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Educational Background: BSc in Nursing or General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) from a recognized nursing council.
- Licensure: Valid and active registration as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Certifications: Certification in Infection Control (CIC) or a specialized post-basic diploma/certificate in Hospital Infection Control is strongly preferred.
- Clinical Experience: Minimum of 2 to 4 years of clinical nursing experience, with at least 1-2 years of experience in direct infection control role.
