Greenhouse Assistant / Cashier

The Greenhouse Assistant is responsible for assisting the Seasonal Greenhouse Caretaker in all functions and paperwork relating to the greenhouse. Our Cashiers play a key role in providing legendary customer service to our customers and in building customer loyalty.

You will be responsible for providing helpful solutions to customers' home improvement needs (or what we like to call getting to know people through their projects). In this position, you will also assist in the receiving, stocking, and pricing of all merchandise, and help maintain a clean and orderly merchandise presentation and overall store cleanliness.

This is traditionally a seasonal position beginning in the Spring and ending sometime in August, depending on our weather conditions and demand for product. Possibility for this person to continue as a Cashier / Sales Associate from August through May.

Starting Compensation ranges from $16.50 - $18.50 per hour based on experience.

Job Duties:

• Daily upkeep of plants, including watering, dead-heading, and feeding to maintain their overall health.
• Assist in receiving all product for the greenhouse, inspecting for shortages, overages, damage, and quality.
• Examines contents in the greenhouse and compares with records, invoices, or orders, to verify accuracy of shipment. Provides all paperwork to the Office Associate for recordkeeping.
• Assist with and continually maintain signage and pricing for all live goods inside and outside the greenhouse.
• Assist customers throughout the store with personal, customized service based on the premise of amazing every customer, every time.
• Answer and monitor all calls and pages promptly, courteously, and effectively.
• Continually build a product knowledge base and possess the ability to assist customers with store layout and product location.
• Assist in pricing, stocking, marking, and bagging of merchandise.
• Operate a cash register to complete customer transactions.

Essential Requirements:

• Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet the needs of the business.
• Reliable and prompt for scheduled shifts
• Ability to stand for long periods of time, walking, lifting up to 40 pounds.
• Good communication skills.

Preferred Requirements:

• At least 1 year of knowledge and experience of lawn and garden products is strongly desired.
• Customer service experience is preferred but not required.
• Candidates with previous hardware or retail experience, comparable services expertise, or product knowledge receive first consideration.

Store Hours

Sun: 8 am - 6 pm

Mon. - Sat: 8 am - 7 pm
