About the role

Are you passionate about media development and looking for a dynamic role in programme development and fundraising? International Media Support is seeking a Programme Development Coordinator (Maternity Cover) to support media initiatives across Asia and coordinate thematic advisers in programme implementation.


Who we are?

International Media Support supports local independent media and media advocacy groups in countries affected by conflict, political transition and authoritarian rule. Set up in 2001, the organisation has since then worked with hundreds of local and international partners to support independent journalism, freedom of expression and the safety of journalists.


Department

In Asia, we work with partners to enhance people’s access to relevant and reliable journalism by supporting independent media and their content production, safeguarding journalists and other media workers, building institutions and promoting freedom of expression and combatting disinformation and hate speech. In a more digital world, our work also increasingly focuses on digital infrastructures and tech policies that influence the environment in which media operates and people consume news and information.


Job summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Programme Development Coordinator to support our media development work in Asia during a maternity cover period. The successful candidate will assist in developing and fundraising for media development programmes across the region, working closely with the regional team and thematic advisers to ensure their expertise is effectively integrated into programme implementation.

You will refer to the Regional Director and coordinate tasks with programme managers in IMS Asia’s 7 country-based programmes as well as our new regional programme.


Key functions and key responsibilities


Programme Development & Fundraising

  • Coordinate and drive the development of project proposals and funding applications in collaboration with programme managers and partners.
  • Conduct background research and contribute to donor reports and strategic programme documents.
  • Identify and explore potential funding opportunities including in the Philanthropic sector.
  • Explore and coordinate the development of strategic regional partnerships in Asia.


Coordination & Integration of Thematic Advisers

  • Facilitate collaboration between thematic advisers and country programme teams.
  • Support the integration of thematic expertise (e.g., media viability, safety, gender and inclusion) into programme implementation efforts.
  • Organise internal coordination meetings and knowledge-sharing sessions.


Administrative & Logistical Support

  • Assist with planning and organising meetings, workshops, and events.
  • Support documentation and knowledge management efforts.
  • Ensure timely communication with internal and external stakeholders.


Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of practical experience in programme development, fundraising, or donor relations.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse teams across different time zones.
  • Strong interest in media development and freedom of expression.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills.
  • Strong ability to work independently within guidelines.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English.
  • Interest in the current political and media environment in Asia.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within Asia and Europe.


Duration and location

  • Expected length of employment: 12 months (maternity leave cover, but with possibility of extension depending on fundraising efforts)
  • Place of employment: Thailand or Singapore
  • Employment type: Full-time
  • Start date: 15th of June 2025, or as soon as possible.


Organisation

You will report to the Regional Director for Asia, work closely with programme managers, the IMS Asia Adviser Team and liaise frequently with IMS’ Finance and Administration Department, the Communications Unit, and other cross-cutting units where needed.
