Job Title: Business Development Manager
Reports to: Sales Manager
The Business Development Manager is responsible for driving revenue growth and expanding market share for Impact Rentals within the construction equipment rental industry. This role focuses on developing relationships with contractors, subcontractors, and project managers, identifying new project opportunities, and positioning the company as a reliable partner for equipment solutions.
Essential Functions:
- Drive new revenue growth by identifying, targeting, and securing strategic partnerships with general contractors, subcontractors, developers, and construction firms across key markets
- Cultivate and expand long-term client relationships with clerical decision-makers, positioning the company as a preferred equipment rental partner across multiple projects and job sites
- Develop and execute proactive business development strategies, including cold outreach, networking, and market penetration initiatives to consistently grow market share
- Generate rental revenue through proactive sales efforts, cold outreach, and networking
- Conduct in-office consultations to identify project needs and uncover upsell opportunities, delivering tailored equipment rental solutions that maximize client efficiency and spending power.
- Partner cross-functionally with operations to align fleet availability with client demand, ensuring high service levels that support client retention and repeat business.
- Monitor local construction activity, bid opportunities, and upcoming projects
- Track competitor pricing, fleet offerings, and market trends to inform go-to-market strategy and maintain a competitive edge
- Maintain accurate pipeline tracking, customer data, and sales forecasts in CRM systems
- Represent Impact Rentals at industry events, trade shows, and local contractor associations
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3–7+ years of experience in sales or business development within construction, equipment rental, or a related industry – preferred but not limited to
- Strong understanding of construction equipment (e.g., aerial lifts, skid steers, excavators, generators, etc.)
- Proven track record of achieving or exceeding sales targets
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, field-driven environment
- Proficiency in CRM systems and Microsoft Office
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel regionally.
Physical Requirements:
- Must have physical stamina and strength to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to engage in conversation with various groups including but not limited to clients and vendors.
- Must be able to travel frequently to attend meetings, presentations, and jobsites.
- Must be able to move around the office, retrieve files, and operate office equipment.
- Must be able to operate a computer and landline phone efficiently.
