Azure Data Engineer – Databricks Specialist - Hybrid

Hybrid position with home office in Richmond, VA

Summary and Responsibilities:We are looking for an experienced Azure Data Engineer with a solid foundation in Databricks, strong SQL and Python skills, and a mindset geared toward building scalable data platforms that support AI and advanced analytics. You’ll join a high-impact team responsible for architecting and developing cloud-based data solutions that power key business decisions and AI initiatives.


Skills & Qualifications:

  • Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and implement Azure-based data pipelines, storage solutions, and transformation logic
  • Develop and manage ETL/ELT processes using Databricks and Azure-native services (e.g., Data Factory, Synapse)
  • Build reusable, scalable, and secure data assets to support AI/ML workflows
  • Write and optimize SQL queries and Python scripts for data ingestion and transformation
  • Collaborate with data scientists and analytics teams to ensure high-quality, AI-ready data
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize data workflows and performance
  • Required QualificationsAzure Data Engineer Associate or Databricks certification (preferred)
  • 3–5 years of experience building solutions on Microsoft Azure (Data Lake, Data Factory, Synapse, etc.)
  • 1–2 years of hands-on experience with Databricks
  • Strong SQL skills with proven experience in data modeling, query tuning, and data wrangling
  • Proficiency in Python, particularly for data transformation and workflow automation
  • Solid understanding of data engineering for AI/ML, including support for feature engineering and model pipelines
  • Preferred ExperienceFamiliarity with Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and Spark optimization strategies
  • Exposure to ML tools such as MLflow, Azure ML, or custom AI solutions
  • CI/CD and DevOps practices for data engineering
  • Experience working in agile, cross-functional data teams
