Role Description
The University is legally obliged to report information to UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) relating to its international students and to adhere to certain administrative obligations in order to retain its track record of compliance and its student sponsor licence to bring international students to the UK. The student sponsor licence permits the enrolment of international students which creates a diverse student body and enhances the experience of local students.
As a member of the Immigration Compliance Team, the Immigration Compliance Support Officer plays a vital role in supporting the University to adhere to UKVI regulations relating to the sponsorship of international students to enter and study in the UK and providing an excellent experience for applicants, both pre and post arrival.
Key responsibilities and contributions
• To conduct pre-CAS compliance checks, including pre-screening/credibility interviews in English with international applicants, primarily from South Asia, to evaluate their genuine intent and academic ability to pursue studies in the UK.
• Demonstrate and maintain up to date knowledge of the UK government’s student immigration regulations and the student visa application process.
• Demonstrate expertise in reviewing relevant documents and qualifications to ensure compliance with Student Visa regulations and to identify potential fraudulent activity.
• Ensure accurate information is collected, logged and communicated to other members of the UK-based team as necessary.
• Monitor and analyse market-specific visa, compliance and policy trends across South Asia, producing insights and risk briefings to inform recruitment strategy, agent management and application decision making.
• Support the Immigration Compliance team with administrative tasks, including the collection and analysis of data where necessary.
• Contribute to agent training in relation to student visa requirements, student immigration regulations and university immigration compliance requirements, as necessary.
Essential experience, knowledge and skills
1. Excellent written and verbal fluency in English, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with international students, agents and internal stakeholders.
2. Strong administrative and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise a high volume of work and meet competing deadlines.
3. High level of attention to detail, particularly when reviewing documentation and assessing compliance with set criteria.
4. Experience of working in an administrative, compliance, admissions or relevant customer-facing role, handling complex or sensitive cases with discretion.
5. Ability to use initiative and exercise sound judgment when dealing with difficult or non-standard si
tuations.
6. Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to work confidently with databases or CRM systems.
7. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider team.
8. Knowledge of the UK Higher Education application process and entry requirements for international students.
9. Knowledge of UK immigration regulations relating to international students, or the ability to quickly acquire this knowledge.
