POSITION SUMMARY:
High school students will have the opportunity to begin the Machine Operator program with CSI during their junior year and attend courses from August to April during their regularly scheduled school hours. In April, IMP will select apprentices to work during the summer. This program allows students to jump-start their careers and be ready to join the workforce before they graduate.
A Machine Operator Apprentice works under the guidance of experienced Machine Operators to learn the skills and knowledge required to operate various types of machinery effectively and safely. This position is typically an entry-level role designed to train the apprentice on the complexities of machine operation, maintenance, and safety protocols. The aim is to gradually equip the apprentice with the necessary skills to become a proficient Machine Operator.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
This is a crucial position within our company that:
- Assist in setting up machinery for operation under the supervision of a Machine Operator Mentor.
- Perform basic machine operations as part of the learning process.
- Learn and follow safety procedures associated with machine operation.
- Assist in the maintenance and cleaning of machinery to ensure its optimal performance.
- Observe experienced operators and practice tasks to develop machine operating skills.
- Understand and follow quality control procedures to ensure the production of high-quality products.
- Participate in team meetings and safety training sessions.
- Keep a log of activities, observations, and learned skills as part of the apprenticeship program.
- Collaborate with other team members to meet production targets and improve efficiency.
- Gradually take on more complex tasks and responsibilities as skills and confidence grow.
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Classroom training with CSI Machine Operator Program
Experience:
- Forklift experience preferred
- Packaging experience preferred
- Milk processing plant experience a plus
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
- Basic understanding of mathematics and ability to follow technical instructions.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment and follow safety regulations.
- Eagerness to take initiative and a proactive approach to learning new skills.
- Attention to detail to ensure the high quality of products and maintenance of equipment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to handle the demands of operating machinery, including standing for long periods, lifting heavy objects, and performing repetitive tasks.
- Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances regularly
- Repetitive motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time on concrete
- Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist on a regular basis
- Reaching: Extending hands and arms in any direction
- Pushing: Using the upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward.
- Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul, or tug objects in a sustained motion.
- Kneeling: Bending legs at the knee to come to rest on the knee or knees occasionally
- Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine
- Lifting: Able to lift up to 55lbs on a regular basis, up to 60lbs occasionally
- Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Includes activities in which they must accurately, loudly, or quickly convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers.
- Subject to up to at least 92db’s.
Machines Operated:
- Office machines (e.g., personal computer, copy machine, fax machine, calculator, and phone).
- Powder Storage Bins, Powder transfer lines and hoppers, Bulk Bagging Equipment, AVPAC Bagging Equipment, metal detection equipment, inkjets, palletizer, stretch wrappers, fork-lifts, dock doors, dock levelers, miscellaneous packaging equipment, calculator, hand tools, and lifts.
