About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the technical aspects of SAP HR implementation and support projects, including requirements gathering, technical design, development, testing, and deployment of ABAP solutions.
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for SAP HR-related ABAP development, providing deep technical expertise and guidance.
  • Analyze complex business requirements within the SAP HR modules (e.g., Personnel Administration, Organizational Management, Payroll, Time Management, Benefits) and translate them into robust and efficient ABAP technical designs.
  • Develop high-quality ABAP code for custom reports, interfaces (using ALE, IDocs, Web Services, APIs), enhancements (using user exits, BADIs), forms (using SAPscript, Smart Forms, Adobe Forms), and workflows within the SAP HR environment.
  • Design and develop data migration programs and scripts for SAP HR data.
  • Perform thorough unit testing and support integration and user acceptance testing (UAT) of developed ABAP objects.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to custom ABAP developments in the SAP HR system.
  • Collaborate closely with functional SAP HR consultants, business analysts, and other technical team members to ensure seamless integration of technical solutions with functional requirements.
  • Optimize ABAP code for performance and scalability within the SAP HR landscape.
  • Adhere to SAP development standards and best practices, ensuring code quality, maintainability, and security.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for all developed ABAP objects.
  • Stay current with the latest SAP ABAP development tools, techniques, and SAP HR functional updates.
  • Lead and mentor junior ABAP developers within the team, providing technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
  • Participate in technical design reviews and code reviews to ensure quality and adherence to standards.
  • Contribute to the development of internal technical standards and best practices for SAP ABAP HR development.
  • Assist in estimations for technical development efforts within SAP HR :
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in SAP ABAP development, with a strong focus on the SAP HR (HCM) module.
  • Deep understanding of SAP HR functional processes and data structures within at least two or more of the following sub-modules : Personnel Administration (PA), Organizational Management (OM), Payroll (PY - preferably India Payroll knowledge), Time Management (TM), and Benefits (BN).
  • Proven expertise in developing various ABAP objects, including reports (classical and interactive), ALV reports, interfaces (ALE/IDocs, Web Services, REST APIs), enhancements (user exits, BADIs, enhancement spots), forms (SAPscript, Smart Forms, Adobe Forms), and workflows.
  • Strong experience with ABAP Workbench tools, debugging techniques, and performance tuning.
  • Experience with data dictionary objects (tables, views, data elements, domains).
  • Familiarity with SAP HR infotypes and their underlying data structures.
  • Understanding of authorization concepts in SAP HR.
  • Experience with testing methodologies and tools.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
  • Strong communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

  • Experience with SAPUI5 or other front-end development technologies for SAP.
  • Knowledge of SAP Workflow development.
  • Experience with SAP NetWeaver Gateway and OData services.
  • Familiarity with SAP HANA and ABAP for HANA development.
  • Exposure to SAP Cloud Platform and its development tools.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies.
  • SAP certifications in ABAP development or SAP HR modules are a plus.
  • Knowledge of India-specific SAP HR requirements and statutory reporting is highly desirable, especially for candidates with Payroll experience
