Job Title: HR Manager
Company: VMC
Industry: Manufacturing — Steel Castings (Manganese Steel Wear Parts)
Location: Jaipur
Reporting to: Management
Experience: 5–8 years
Salary: ₹4–7 lakh per annum (based on experience)
About Us
VMC is a leading manufacturer of manganese steel castings — concaves, mantles, jaw plates, and cement mill liners — supplying to the crushing and cement industries across India. With over two decades of manufacturing expertise and a capacity of 1,200 tonnes per month, we are at an exciting phase of growth and professionalisation.
We are building a high-performance organisation and are looking for an HR Manager who will set up and lead our people function from the ground up.
The Opportunity
This is a greenfield HR role — you will not be inheriting a well-oiled function. You will be building it. If you have spent your career following processes others designed, this role is not for you. If you have built leave policies, appraisal systems, and hiring pipelines from scratch and take pride in that, read on.
You will be the first dedicated HR Manager at VMC, working directly with leadership to bring structure, systems, and a performance culture to a 70-person staff organisation (with ~400 contract workers on site).
What You Will Own
Recruitment & Onboarding
- End-to-end hiring for all roles across functions — writing JDs, screening, interviewing, offer management
- Structured onboarding process so new joiners are productive from Week 1
- Building a talent pipeline for recurring roles (supervisors, operators, sales executives)
HR Systems & Processes
- Design and implement: attendance management, leave policy, employee records, salary register, offer letter templates, exit process
- Ensure every employee has a proper appointment letter, job description, and documented terms
- Set up and maintain an HR calendar: probation reviews, appraisal cycle, increment dates
Performance Management
- Work with department heads and leadership to define KPIs for each role
- Implement a structured mid-year check-in and annual appraisal cycle
- Manage the increment and promotion process based on objective performance data
- Introduce and manage Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) for underperformers
Compliance
- Ensure compliance with the Factories Act, Shops & Establishments Act, and all applicable state labour laws
- Maintain the Contract Labour (Regulation & Abolition) Act licence and related registers
- Collect and file PF and ESIC compliance certificates from all contractors monthly — protect the company as principal employer
- Ensure Professional Tax deduction and remittance for direct staff
- Maintain all statutory registers and respond to labour department inspections
Employee Relations
- Be the first point of contact for employee grievances; resolve fairly and quickly
- Manage disciplinary processes with proper documentation
- Conduct exit interviews; identify patterns and present findings to management
- Build a workplace culture where performance is recognised and accountability is real
Payroll Coordination
- Coordinate with accounts for accurate and timely salary processing
- Maintain attendance and leave data to feed into payroll
- Ensure all deductions (PT, PF for direct staff) are calculated correctly
What We Are Looking For
Experience & Background
- 5–8 years of HR experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a manufacturing, industrial, or factory environment
- Has personally handled recruitment, compliance, payroll coordination, and performance management — not just one of these
- Has built HR systems and processes from scratch, not just maintained inherited ones
- Worked in an SME or mid-sized company; understands the pace and hands-on nature of smaller organisations
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong working knowledge of the Factories Act, Contract Labour (R&A) Act, Shops & Establishments Act
- Familiar with PF, ESIC, and Professional Tax compliance for direct employees
- Experience collecting contractor compliance certificates and managing principal employer obligations
- Capable of running end-to-end recruitment independently
- Proficient in MS Office / Google Sheets; comfortable with basic HRMS tools
Personal Qualities
- Builder mentality — energised by creating structure where none exists, not frustrated by it
- Direct communicator — comfortable having difficult conversations with employees and management
- High ownership — does not wait to be told; sees a gap and fills it
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing plant environment
What We Offer
- Salary: ₹4–7 lakh per annum based on experience
- Direct reporting to and visibility with senior leadership
- The opportunity to build an HR function from the ground up with full management support
- A stable, growing manufacturing business with a clear professionalisation agenda
