About GENTLE
GENTLE is building the financial intelligence OS for India's retail investors. We help affluent young Indians track their wealth across mutual funds, stocks, bonds, PMS, AIFs, and unlisted assets — and we surface the kind of curated, personalised intelligence that's historically been locked behind private banking relationships.
Our brand stance is simple: finance for people who hate being talked down to.
We're early in our journey — small team, real ambition. You'd be joining as our first dedicated people hire.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role based at our Ahmedabad office. The Human Resources Manager will oversee HR functions, including recruitment, employee onboarding, and performance management. Responsibilities include developing and implementing HR policies, managing employee relations, ensuring compliance with labor laws, and fostering a positive workplace culture. The HR Manager will work closely with various departments to support organizational growth and employee well-being.
What you'll own
→ Hiring. End-to-end recruiting across product, engineering, design, growth, and ops. Build the interview process, calibrate hiring bars with the founders, source senior roles yourself, and create a candidate experience that reflects the GENTLE brand.
→ Onboarding and employee experience. Design how someone's first 30 days at GENTLE actually feel. Make the small things — offer letters, swag, first-day setup, manager kick-offs — feel intentional.
→ Compensation and ESOPs. Build and maintain comp bands. Own ESOP communication and education — most of our team will hold equity, and most won't fully understand it unless we make it clear.
→ Performance and feedback. Build our first performance cycle from scratch — something lightweight, honest, and useful. Not a 30-page corporate ritual.
→ Compliance and operations. Own all statutory compliance — PF, ESIC, gratuity, state registrations, employment contracts. Manage payroll vendors and HRMS tooling.
→ Culture. Culture isn't a separate workstream — it's the output of how we hire, pay, promote, recognise, and exit people. You'll own all of those levers, which means you'll own culture by default.
→ Internal communication. All-hands cadence, internal updates, policy comms. You'll be the person who makes sure the team always knows what's happening and why.
What we're looking for
4–7 years of HR experience. At least 3 years in a startup that scaled from under 30 to 100+ people is a big plus.
Must-haves
✓ You've personally driven hiring — not just coordinated with recruiters — including for product, engineering, or design roles.
✓ You've built or revamped a comp structure, including ESOP communication.
✓ You know Indian labour compliance well enough to handle PF, ESIC, gratuity, and state Shops & Establishments registrations without needing a consultant for routine matters.
✓ You've owned at least one full performance cycle end-to-end.
✓ You've handled difficult conversations — PIPs, terminations, conflict resolution — without escalating everything to the founders.
✓ You write well. You'll be drafting offer letters, policies, and internal comms in our voice.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience hiring for regulated businesses (SEBI/RBI scrutiny in fintech, lending, or wealth).
- Experience building employer brand on LinkedIn or other channels.
- Exposure to ESOP design — vesting schedules, cliffs, exercise mechanics, tax implications.
