ABOUT THE ROLE
Homegrown: India’s next-gen culture and lifestyle platform is looking to hire a Human Resources Lead - People & Culture to lead and stabilise the people function across Homegrown’s business verticals and newly formed Homegrown Music Label.
This is a high-performance role, and not a traditional HR position. You will work closely with the Founder/CEO and senior leadership to build strong teams, design organisational systems, and bring structure, objectivity, and emotional maturity into a fast-growing, culture-led company. This role requires someone who can balance people, performance, and business needs while being a trusted buffer across teams and leadership.
Important: Experience in creative, culture-led, or startup environments is critical as this role requires agility and comfort with ambiguity and non-traditional team structures.
CORE MANDATE
Build a structured and scalable people function with objectivity while anchoring culture and enabling growth across the organisation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Driving leadership and strategic HR
- Partner with the Founder/CEO on org design, hiring strategy, and team structure
- Build and evolve the people function across multiple verticals
- Act as a neutral, objective voice in leadership decisions
- Drive clarity and consistency, minimising internal politics and biases
2. Building hiring strategy and talent
- To drive the overall hiring strategy and talent quality across the organisation for both full-time and contract basis
- Partner with leadership and managers to define roles clearly before hiring begins
- Design and implement structured evaluation frameworks and scorecards
- Oversee candidate shortlisting processes, ensuring quality over volume
- Personally anchor senior and leadership hiring
- Build and maintain a strong talent pipeline across creative, culture, and business roles
- Ensure hiring decisions are objective and consistent
3. Senior stakeholder & conflict management
- Manage and mediate cross-functional conflicts (creative, finance, ops, editorial)
- Ensure disagreements are handled calmly and without escalation
- Build frameworks for feedback, escalation, and resolution
- Act as a stabilising force across varied personalities and high-pressure situations
4. People operations, compliance and building systems
- Build and drive a robust HR systems and processes:
- Contracts, documentation, and policy frameworks
- Compliance with Indian labour laws (PF, ESIC, etc.)
- Org structure and reporting clarity
- To implement consistency and process hygiene
5. Payroll, Compensation & Financial Alignment
- Oversee payroll processes including:
- Salaries, bonuses, reimbursements, and TDS coordination
- Work closely with Finance to ensure accuracy, transparency, and timeliness
- Bring structure to compensation frameworks and budgeting alignment

6. Employee Performance, appraisals & growth
- Design and implement structured 360° review systems
- Drive objective, data-backed appraisals
- Identify high performers, underperformance, and restructuring needs
- Build growth pathways and capability development frameworks to set teams up for success.
7. Employee lifecycle & relations
- To oversee the entire employee lifecycle: hiring - onboarding - performance - exit
- Manage employee relations with objectivity and discretion.
- Address grievances and build systems to prevent escalation.
8. Culture & drive team engagement
- Build intentional culture and value systems, not just ad-hoc activities
- Drive engagement and relationship building across on-ground and remote teams (especially editorial)
- Ensure teams feel connected, and heard
9. Founders/CEO office support
- Act as a buffer and translator between Founder/CEO, leadership and teams
- Ensure communication is clear and objective
- Reduce friction and protect leadership bandwidth
REQUIREMENTS
- 7–12 years of experience in HR / People roles, with clear progression into leadership responsibilities
- We are specifically looking for individuals who have operated in a startup or culture-driven environments, and understand the difference between building people systems in dynamic companies vs maintaining them in traditional organisations.
- Strong understanding of:
- Indian labour laws and compliance frameworks
- Performance management and org design systems
- Proven experience in:
- Hiring strategy and talent evaluation
- Conflict resolution and stakeholder management
- Working closely with founders / senior leadership
- High emotional intelligence with the ability to:
- Handle high-pressure situations calmly
- Navigate strong personalities and ambiguity
- Experience with HR systems, payroll processes, and data-driven decision making
