About the Opportunity
Our client is a leading multinational multinational organisation operating across the infrastructure, ports, logistics and transportation sectors. The business has a rapidly expanding international presence across the Middle East, Africa, Asia-Pacific, Australia, Europe and North America.
As part of its continued international growth and investment strategy, the organisation is seeking an experienced HR Business Partner – International Businesses to lead the people agenda across a diverse portfolio of overseas operations.
This is a senior, high-impact HR leadership position offering the opportunity to to work directly with CEOs, Business Heads and senior leadership teams across multiple countries and cultures.
The position will suit a globally experienced HR leader who understands the business environment and has successfully supported complex, geographically dispersed operations.
The Role
The successful candidate will act as a strategic HR partner to international business leaders, supporting organisational effectiveness, talent strategy, leadership development, workforce planning, employee relations and cultural integration.
You will play an important role in international expansion, business transformation, acquisitions and organisational change, while ensuring effective HR governance and alignment with applicable local employment frameworks.
Candidates must have experience working in or supporting highly diverse, multinational organisations, particularly in situations requiring strong business acumen, cultural awareness and effective cross-cultural stakeholder management.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic HR Business Partnering
- Act as a trusted adviser to CEOs, Business Heads and senior leaders across international operations.
- Align people strategy with business growth, expansion, productivity and operational priorities.
- Lead workforce planning, organisational effectiveness and leadership capability initiatives.
- Provide strategic HR input into business transformation and growth programmes.
Talent and Leadership Development
- Lead talent reviews, succession planning and leadership-pipeline development.
- Identify and develop high-potential talent across international businesses.
- Deliver leadership-development and capability-building initiatives.
- Ensure the organisation has the talent required to meet current and future business needs.
Organisation Development and Transformation
- Lead organisation design, restructuring and organisational-effectiveness initiatives.
- Develop programmes supporting culture, engagement and employee experience.
- Support business transformation, acquisitions, integrations and restructuring.
- Lead change-management initiatives across multiple markets and geographies.
International HR and Governance
- Support the effective implementation of HR policies, systems and governance frameworks across different countries.
- Partner with local leadership to promote compliance with applicable employment legislation and practices.
- Identify and mitigate people-related risks.
- Promote high standards of governance, ethics and compliance.
Talent Acquisition and Workforce Planning
- Partner with recruitment teams to attract senior, specialist and leadership talent internationally.
- Develop workforce plans aligned with the organisation’s growth strategy.
- Support expatriate, localisation and global-mobility programmes.
- Build talent pipelines for critical international positions.
Employee and Industrial Relations
- Develop and implement employee and industrial-relations strategies across international operations.
- Partner with site and business leaders to maintain constructive workforce relationships.
- Engage with unions, employee representatives, works councils and relevant authorities where applicable.
- Advise on collective bargaining, workforce restructuring, productivity initiatives and organisational change.
- Manage complex employee-relations matters, grievances, disputes and conflict resolution.
- Identify and mitigate industrial-relations risks that could affect business continuity.
- Support compliance with country-specific labour laws, collective agreements and employment practices.
Global Mobility and Cross-Cultural Leadership
- Oversee international assignments, expatriate programmes and talent mobility.
- Support leaders managing multicultural and geographically dispersed teams.
- Promote collaboration and cultural integration across international operations.
M&A and International Expansion
- Support HR due diligence for acquisitions and strategic investments.
- Lead the people, culture and organisational elements of post-acquisition integration.
- Partner with leadership on workforce integration and change management.
- Support the HR strategy for new-market entry and international expansion.
International Scope
The role will support operations and investments across several international markets, which may include:
- The Middle East
- East Africa
- South Asia
- Australia
- Israel
- Europe
- North America
The successful candidate must be comfortable working across multiple time zones, cultures and business environments. Frequent international travel and occasional extended stays at overseas business locations will be required.
Candidate Profile
Education
- MBA, PGDM or comparable postgraduate qualification in Human Resources from a recognised institution.
- Additional qualifications in organisational development, change management, leadership, international HR or coaching would be advantageous.
Experience
- At least 12 years of progressive HR experience, including substantial experience in a strategic HR Business Partnering capacity.
- Significant experience supporting multinational or geographically dispersed businesses.
- Meaningful professional experience working outside the candidate’s primary home market or directly supporting overseas operations.
- Experience partnering with senior executives and international leadership teams.
- Experience in infrastructure, ports, logistics, shipping, transportation, energy, manufacturing or another large-scale industrial environment would be highly advantageous.
Essential Requirements
- Able to be based in Ahmedabad and undertake frequent international travel.
- Meaningful experience supporting businesses or operations across multiple countries.
- Strong international HR experience and exposure to multicultural workforces.
- Experience operating across both developed and emerging markets.
- Exposure to European and/or North American business environments through direct HR support, international assignments or work within multinational organisations.
- Strong understanding of international talent, leadership and workforce practices.
- Demonstrated experience in employee or industrial relations, potentially including unions, workforce engagement, collective bargaining or complex employee matters.
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally for approximately 40–60% of the role.
- Comfortable spending extended periods at overseas business locations when required.
