About the role

The Group Chief Operations Office drives operations performance standards, service excellence, and consistency across the Group and our Global Service Centres (GSCs). This central team oversees areas such as business intelligence, cost management, reporting, billing and regulatory compliance. In addition, through its GSC Capabilities team, it's responsible for enterprise-wide workforce management, location strategy, future skills, and group common services (AI, automation, and other strategic initiatives). We're looking for people who are always seeking better ways to do things. You're curious about how things work, enjoy tackling challenges, and handle change with ease. You could be a great fit if you're: A natural collaborator: You're comfortable building relationships across teams, countries and cultures, using open communication to share knowledge and deliver results. An analytical thinker: You're confident with numbers – you simplify complex information, turn data into insights, and create smart, logical solutions that drive change. A clear, digital-first communicator: You present complex ideas simply – whether in person or in writing – using tools like Excel, PowerPoint and Word to structure information that can build trust and influence results. Eager to learn: You're adaptable, curious, and quick to embrace new tools, environments and ways of working. Ownership-minded: You take initiative and understand project-management basics – planning, prioritising and tracking risks and milestones – to help deliver change. Over this two-year programme, you'll complete three eight-month rotations across HSBC in Operational Excellence. You'll explore different parts of our organisation, build a strong network, and make an impact from day one – seeing how the Group Chief Operating Office simplifies operations, and drives transformation through data led insights, to deliver a world-class service to our customers and colleagues globally. Here's a taste of what you'll work on: Shaping the future: Use technology and automation to streamline processes and make HSBC more efficient for the long term. International partnerships: Work with global teams, learn how they operate, and suggest improvements that scale across markets to drive excellence. Continuous improvement: Apply risk, control and process-improvement frameworks to ensure we're always getting better. Making recommendations: Combine data, market practice and customer insight to propose changes that deliver real outcomes. Data-led decisions: Analyse financial, operational and risk data to generate insights that guide decision-making and sharpen your commercial knowledge. Driving innovation: Identify problems, research options and contribute ideas that advance HSBC's digital transformation, enhancing resilience, improving efficiency and delivering outstanding services to our customers.
