Position Summary
As a Outdoor Receiver at Hartville Hardware, you are responsible for unloading and receiving deliveries of lumber, hardware, and building materials. You inspect incoming shipments, manage inventory, and organize products in the yard, ensuring everything is stored properly and safely. Your role requires a keen attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and accuracy in all tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Unload trucks and delivery vehicles containing incoming lumber, hardware, and building materials.
- Inspect shipments for damages, discrepancies, and accuracy against purchase orders or delivery documentation.
- Sign off on deliveries, noting any issues with the shipment (e.g., missing items, damaged goods) and communicate with suppliers or vendors as needed.
- Organize and store products in the yard in an orderly and accessible manner, ensuring all materials are easy to locate.
- Tag/label incoming S/O products to ensure proper tracking.
- Assist in maintaining accurate inventory levels and help identify items that need to be reordered.
- Perform periodic inventory checks to ensure that all products are correctly recorded and stored.
- Product Handling and Storage:
- Safely move materials from the receiving area to designated storage locations using forklifts, pallet jacks, or manual handling.
- Ensure that all products are stored in a manner that minimizes damage and maintains quality (e.g., stacking lumber properly).
- Monitor the storage area for any safety hazards and report issues promptly to the Yard Supervisor.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of all received shipments, noting any discrepancies, damages, or missing items.
- Assist with updating inventory management systems or logs to reflect the receipt of goods.
- Communicate effectively with the inventory team and management about stock levels, order issues, and product arrivals.
- Follow all safety protocols and guidelines when unloading and storing materials to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment safely, ensuring compliance with company policies and OSHA regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized yard to ensure a safe working environment for all employees and customers.
- Collaboration and Teamwork:
- Work closely with other yard staff, inventory, and sales teams to ensure smooth operations and timely fulfillment of customer orders.
- Assist with the loading of customer orders or helping with the preparation of materials for delivery as needed.
- Participate in team meetings and training sessions to stay informed on safety procedures, new products, and company goals.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a warehouse, lumber yard, or construction-related environment is preferred.
- Experience with inventory management systems or basic computer skills is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to perform tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment.
- Good physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy items (up to 50 pounds or more).
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with other departments.
- Strong communication skills to report issues and update documentation.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and handle heavy, bulky items.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat or cold.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move for extended periods during the workday.
Availability Requirements
- Store Hours are Monday-Friday 6am-7pm and Saturday 7am-5pm
