JOB SUMMARY:
While upholding Hoyt’s Policies and Mission and Values Statements, the CNC Maintenance Tech B is primarily responsible for maintaining and repairing the facilities CNC machines, servicing major equipment breakdowns, and may be used to install new utility lines (electrical, plumbing, natural gas, water, phones, etc.).
I – ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Mechanical Responsibilities: The CNC Maintenance Tech B assists in the inspection, servicing, and repair equipment within the facility under the direction of the Maintenance Manager. This includes:
- Knowledge of OEM machine controllers (FANUC, Mitsubishi)
- Perform mechanical repairs (and rebuild) on all machines.
- Pull and replace machine linear guides and ball screws.
- Support with scheduling PM, reading reports, diagrams and drawings.
- Able to work with complex machines up to & including 5 Axis.
- Perform machine leveling and alignment on all machines.
- Identify and replace parts as necessary.
- Install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain machine tool equipment and controls.
- Use machine tool manuals, technical documents, and internal and vendor resources to research machine issues.
- Coordinate with external suppliers and maintenance companies to ensure timely and accurate completion of work.
- Work based on a sense of urgency with machine down conditions.
- In conjunction with the production team, will support continuous improvement of development of PM instructions and schedules to prevent failures.
- Troubleshoot hydraulics, electronics, and software, electrical, pneumatic and mechanical systems.
- Take the lead on all assigned capital improvement projects, at whatever stage it is handed over from the Maintenance Manager. This may include the creation of drawings and sketches, creating a Bill of Material, ordering or fabricating necessary parts, writing or editing PLC programs, assembling and testing the project for use by production, and address potential personnel and equipment safety issues.
- Assist the Maintenance department in the planning, execution and completion of projects, including offering technical advice and rendering assistance as called upon.
- Installs electrical distribution, up to 480 volts and 400 amps. Runs conduit, voice and data lines, liquid and pneumatic plumbing and air lines, as needed.
Minor Equipment and Facility Service Responsibilities: The CNC Maintenance Tech B will also perform equipment, process and facility maintenance tasks as assigned, or needed.

Additional Responsibilities:
- Responsible for general housekeeping of the shop area.
- Work all scheduled hours up to seven days a week including overtime.
- Maintains good attendance.
- Adhere to all safety policies, procedures and rules. Including LOTO, PPE
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
II – JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Advanced CNC knowledge for the navigation of the control systems. Fanuc and Mitsubishi experience preferred.
- Advanced electrical knowledge and troubleshooting abilities for high and low voltage circuits. Including drives, power supplies, contactors, relays, etc.
- Advanced use of precision measurement tools and techniques to assist in the troubleshooting, setup, and repair of precision equipment.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving and communication skills.
- Knowledge of industrial electrical, plumbing, natural gas, water and drainage systems.
- An understanding of electrical schematics, blueprints, and ladder logic.
- Must have mechanical aptitude.
- Basic math skills.
- Knowledge of Spreadsheets, Database and Word Processing programs.
- Ability to adapt and learn new computer software for equipment repair and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of CNC programming logic including M and G code.
Training and Education:
Type of Training Associate degree, completion of a related trade school program, or equivalent experience. |

III – QUALITY AND COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:
Decision Making and Problem Solving:
The CNC Maintenance Tech B is responsible for decision-making related to the completion of projects and work assignments to resolve problems in a timely and cost-effective manner, with minimal interruption to production. Must be able to determine when a project or assignment is outside the scope of individual’s ability in order to source outside help.
Interaction with Others:
This position requires interacting with all levels of employees, ranging from the president to operators on the production floor. In addition, the CNC Maintenance Tech B interacts with outside vendors.
Supervisory and Leadership Responsibilities:
This position may require assisting other technicians with troubleshooting and equipment repairs by using their knowledge for training and support. Some tasks may require supervision of technicians as they assist with equipment repairs.
iV - Working Environment:
Physical environment:
- The time spent in the production area involves working with potentially hazardous manufacturing operations, equipment, machine tools, hand tools, dust and varying noise levels.
- The majority of the required tasks would be completed inside of the facility with appropriate lighting levels, access to utilities, and a temperature-controlled environment.
- Safety hazards exist from working with electricity, metal shavings, and chemicals.
- Must be able to climb ladders and work at elevated levels.
Mental pressure:
Constant concentration to solve logic problems coupled with frequent interruptions and noise make a difficult working environment. Machine breakdowns must be fixed as quickly as possible so as not to interrupt production. This can create a stressful environment.
