JOB SUMMARY
The Special Assistant to the Superintendent provides executive support, managing day-to-day operations in the Office of the Superintendent. This involves close coordination with the Chief of Staff, Executive Assistant to the Superintendent, and Security Detail to ensure the Superintendent's schedule runs smoothly in alignment with HISD top priorities. Furthermore, the Special Assistant helps coordinate activities involving all members of the Superintendent’s senior leadership team and external stakeholders. This position engages in meetings with staff members across departments and external stakeholders.

- Manages the Superintendent’s HISD email and HISD cellphone.
Ensures consistent communication with Chief of Staff, Chief of Departments, and Deputy Chiefs to schedule meetings and share information.
Verify the type of basic technology connections, i.e., projector, microphone, audio/visual, for external events and meetings.
Making necessary preparations and gathering information in advance of speeches, press
conferences, and other internal/external events in which the Superintendent will
participate.
Update the Superintendent of district matters.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree

Work is non-standardized and widely varied, involving many complex and significant variables including time spent planning and preparing briefing documents. Ability to work in a high-performance culture and fast-paced environment. Strong analytic ability and inductive thinking are frequently required to accept new approaches to situations where previously accepted solutions have proven inadequate. Supervision received typically consists of providing periodic coaching, advice and feedback. Willingness to work some evening/weekends.
COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS
Interactions are typically with Chief of Staff, Chiefs of Departments, Deputy Chiefs, Senior Executive Directors, campus leadership and external stakeholders. Communication is assumed confidential, unless otherwise noted. Temperament to communicate with a variety of personalities in a tactful, pleasant, and professional manner.
WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.
