Position Summary 

This position will be responsible for maintenance of university campuses and buildings including Northeast Philadelphia and Newtown. The employee must understand and embrace the mission of Catholic Higher Education and must commit to the mission, goals and objectives of Holy Family University in word and deed.

Essential Functions:  

  • Act as Newtown Campuses Site Lead to coordinate campus maintenance efforts under direction of the Director of Facilities and Campus Operations.
  • Skilled in basic HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, fire detection and suppression systems, electrical, painting, masonry, landscape, office renovations and equipment repair.
  • Maintain grounds and common areas, including monitoring trash/recycling receptacles and the grounds around the direct vicinity of each campus. 
  • Perform regular visual inspections of buildings and grounds and document/communicate findings to Supervisor.
  • Implement corrective action for work orders/service requests and maintenance projects.  Prepare and communicate a list of materials to Supervisor needed to complete work assignments if not immediately available.
  • Comfortable and able to work on ladders, roofs, and other elevated structures.
  • Routine maintenance work related to interior painting of offices, classrooms, hallways, and some minor exterior painting of railings, fences, signs, poles, etc.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance including lock-out tag-out and other safety procedures/protocols.
  • Basic remodeling work to demo/install walls, ceilings, floors, in accordance with specifications; including cleaning of area.    
  • Must be willing to work flexible schedules if circumstances arise that call for coverage.
  • Ability to commit to a 24 hour on-call rotation schedule and promptly respond to emergency situations when notified.
  • Coordinate/complete requested furniture/office moves as needed.   Work with Supervisor to coordinate student workers assigned. 
  • Monitor snow and ice conditions at each campus relay information to snow and ice removal contractor.  Assist in incidental snow removal and ice treatment if needed. 
  • Work with outsourced vendors and contractors as needed.
  • Monitor inventory of supplies/spare parts needed for maintenance, repair, or proper function of facilities and all assigned equipment

Additionally, demonstrate the ability to work with diverse personalities, and harmoniously with students, faculty and staff, and the public.  Employees are expected to follow and abide by all University policies, rules, regulations and guidelines. 

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalency degree required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a college/university/commercial maintenance environment. 
  • Intermediate experience in plumbing, electrical, and HVAC.
  • Ability to successfully pass background screening requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision. 
  •  Proficient with the use of personal computers for communication, records keeping and work management,
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good organizational skills applying proper attention to detail.
  • Professional and respectful demeanor.
  • Must utilize own hand tools during the course of the work day.

Work Environment: 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be working in various indoor and outdoor settings with frequent potential exposure to adverse weather conditions.

Physical Requirements:

  • The employee must have sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of this job, including ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more without assistance.   
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 
  • The employee is regularly required to stand and walk for long periods of time; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear, stoop, bend, crouch, climb and crawl. 

Certification/Licensure: 

  • Valid driver’s license

Other important information:

  • Moderate risk to hazardous materials with low to moderate risk to blood borne pathogens. 
  • Must be able to wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary.
