REQUIRED CERTIFICATION:
• Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with certifications in Science (DX or DI), or a combination of Biology (DA),
Physics (DE), Physical Science (DP), and/or Chemistry (DC)
• Preference for additional Middle Level (ZL) endorsement
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Interest and willingness to structure teaching for conceptual understanding
• Interest and willingness in implementing standards-based planning and instruction
• Interest and willingness to teach all students including those with special learning needs
• Ability to use formative assessments effectively to inform students of their level of proficiency towards a
standard and to guide instructional decisions
• Ability to utilize and assess student writing and oral explanation as a measure of learning
• Ability to use alternative/authentic assessments
• Willingness to work collaboratively with professionals and a desire to improve practices
• A strong history of professional growth efforts (experienced teacher) or an expressed philosophy which defines
the necessity for a professional teacher to grow and learn throughout a career (beginning teacher)
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience teaching at the middle school/junior high level
• Experience with Inquiry Based learning
• Experience with Restorative Practices
• Experience with Culturally Responsive/Sustaining Pedagogy
• Broadly educated in and able to integrate Science with other curriculum areas.
• Experience with team teaching

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Teaches courses in science to Junior High students utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education.
• Develops standards-based science lesson plans based on collaboratively and/or independently-designed units of
study.
• Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law, Board policy, and administrative
regulations and procedures of the school district.
• Establishes and maintains a learning environment that supports students engaging in the science practices to
build conceptual and procedural knowledge, strategic competence, adaptive reasoning, and a productive
disposition to science.
• Provides opportunities when needed for individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to
the needs of each student.
• Designs learning experiences that will help students relate science to the physical world.
• Evaluates each student's progress toward proficiency on course standards.
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, collaborative, productive
classroom community.
• Communicates with parents/guardians and other staff to support individual student’s academic progress.
• Identifies students’ social-emotional needs and cooperates with other professional staff members to meet those
needs.
• Maintains professional competence through professional development provided by the district and in
additional, optional self-selected professional growth activities.
• Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to understand and use the method by which they
will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
• Collaborates with other faculty and staff to develop and implement curricular, instructional, and school culture
initiatives.
• Maintains an auditable record of student attendance and performance with legends for clarity.
• Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies; maintains required inventory
records.
• Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance is required.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and work year per Teacher Master Agreement between the Holt Education Association and the Board of
Education.
