REQUIRED CERTIFICATION:
• Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with endorsement in Math (EX) or All Subjects (ZG)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience teaching at the middle or high school level
• Willingness to work collaboratively with other professionals and a desire to improve educational practices
• Ability to utilize and assess student writing and oral explanation as a measure of learning
• Ability to use explicit assessments to make instructional decisions
• Ability to use alternative/authentic assessments
• Interest and willingness to structure teaching for conceptual understanding
• Interest and willingness to teach all students including those with special learning needs
• A strong history of professional growth efforts (experienced teacher) or an expressed philosophy, which defines
the necessity for a professional teacher to grow and learn throughout a career (beginning teacher)
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Broadly educated in and able to integrate Mathematics with other curriculum areas
• Experience with team teaching
• Middle Level endorsement
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Teaches courses in mathematics to secondary pupils utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education
and appropriate curriculum publications as guidelines in teaching individual course content.
• Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and
procedures of the school district.
• Develops lesson plans and appropriate instructional aids.
• Demonstrates mathematical concepts using models, chalkboard, overhead projector, and other standard or
teacher-prepared instructional aids.

• Provides opportunities when needed for individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to
the needs of each pupil.
• Designs learning activities that will relate mathematics to the physical world.
• Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom
environment.
• Evaluates each pupil's progress in mathematical knowledge and skills. Evaluates each pupil's citizenship.
• Selects and requisitions books. Instructional aids, and instructional supplies; maintains required inventory
records.
• Communicates with parents to interpret contemporary methods in teaching mathematics and with parents and
school counselors to discuss the individual pupil's progress.
• Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils
solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
• Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned workday.
• Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
• Shares in the sponsorship of student activities such as equation teams and participates in faculty and
department meetings.
• Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district, and/or in
self-selected professional growth activities.
• Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which he will be
evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
• Maintains an auditable record of pupil attendance and performance with legends for clarity.
• Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance is required.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and work year to be according to negotiated Master Agreement between the Holt Education Association and the
Board of Education.
