Lead Teacher
Primary Purpose
Under the direction of the Principal, the Lead Teacher assists with academic leadership, coordination, and improvement of instructional practices within the school. The Lead Teacher provides direct classroom instruction for a portion of the school day while serving as a key instructional support and resource for teachers to ensure effective teaching and learning for all students.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Assist the Principal with the administration, coordination, and improvement of instructional programs within the school.
- Provide direct classroom instruction to students for approximately 50% of the school day.
- Serve as a curriculum advisor to the administration by supporting instructional goals and contributing to the development of the school and district instructional programs.
- Monitor lesson plans, instructional effectiveness, and time-on-task of classroom teachers; assist with scheduling and provide documented support for teachers needing improvement.
- Coordinate and facilitate team planning to accomplish district instructional objectives through classroom visits, planning meetings, and one-on-one instructional support.
- Introduce and model research-based instructional strategies, including classroom organization, learning centers, grouping practices, behavior supports, differentiation, and student engagement techniques.
- Support teachers in developing and implementing effective instructional strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Act as an instructional leader for teachers on improvement plans or those identified as needing intensive support.
- Coordinate instructional efforts with support services and programs, including special education, alternative education, and student services.
- Coordinate and support professional development activities aimed at improving instructional practices.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal to ensure effective instruction for all students.
Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) successful years of experience as a classroom teacher.
- Mississippi 486 Administrative License
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Demonstrated leadership ability with strong communication, listening, and organizational skills.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of current teaching methods, instructional strategies, and educational pedagogy.
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction and learning styles.
- Knowledge of grade-level curriculum and content standards.
- Knowledge of best practices in instructional leadership, program evaluation, and staff supervision.
- Knowledge of data systems, data analysis, and action planning.
- Ability to use computer systems and software applications effectively.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation and continuous professional growth.
Contract and Salary
- 212 Days per year
- Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications and consistent with district administrative salary schedules
