Role Description The Head of Department (HoD) – Department of Agriculture is a full-time, on-site leadership role based at the Dehradun campus. The HoD will oversee academic planning and delivery, including curriculum development, course scheduling, and continuous improvement of teaching and learning practices in agriculture and allied disciplines. Daily responsibilities include mentoring and supervising faculty, supporting research initiatives, guiding student projects, and promoting industry and community partnerships relevant to agriculture. The role involves ensuring compliance with university and regulatory standards, managing departmental resources and budgets, and contributing to accreditation, quality assurance, and strategic planning. The HoD will also represent the department in academic committees, lead outreach activities, and foster a collaborative, inclusive, and research-oriented culture.
Qualifications
- Advanced academic credentials in Agriculture (preferably PhD), with a strong record of teaching, research and publications.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in academic administration, including curriculum design, faculty supervision, and departmental management.
- Expertise in core agricultural domains such as agronomy, soil science, horticulture.
- Experience in research project development, grant acquisition, collaboration with industry and government agencies, and technology transfer in agriculture.
- Strong organizational, planning, and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage multiple academic and administrative priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to mentor faculty and students and represent the department professionally.
- Commitment to inclusive, learner-centered pedagogy, ethical practices, and promotion of a diverse and supportive academic environment.
- Familiarity with accreditation processes, quality assurance frameworks, and contemporary trends in agricultural education and sustainability.
