About the Role:

The Plumber is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining pipes, fixtures, and other plumbing used for water distribution and wastewater disposal in the entire facility and grounds.

Essential Functions:

  • Installs, repairs, and maintains plumbing systems and fixtures in entire facility and grounds.

 

  • Reads, blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the layout of plumbing systems, water supply networks, and waste and drainage systems. Plans, installs, and services plumbing systems, fixtures, piping equipment, and controls, which may be used to transport water, waste, gases or hot liquids.

 

  • Works in cooperation with other trades and laborers to ensure that all specifications, legislation, and policies are met. Ensures efficient completion of any project. Providing adequate services will ensure that all water supply networks and waste and drainage systems are installed, repaired, and maintained to meet all standards of building codes and safety.       

Supportive Functions:

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, at the discretion of the manager based on the particular requirements of the hotel.

 

  • Reviews building plans and specifications to determine the layout for plumbing and related materials.
  • Identifies required tools and special equipment.
  • Selects the type and size of pipe required.
  • Locates and marks positions for connections and fixtures.
  • Installs supports and hangers for pipe, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Assembles and installs valves and fittings.
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains water treatment equipment, piping, and controls.
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains underground storm sanitary and water piping systems.
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains sinks, tubs, and toilets.
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains water heaters and conditioners.
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains plumbing fixtures, appliances, and trim.
  • Tests pipe systems and fixtures for leaks.
  • Maintains all building codes, installation requirements, and relevant legislation.
  • Performs scheduled maintenance service on plumbing systems and fixtures.
  • Applies all codes to installations, repairs and maintenance.
  • Ensures all requirements, as specified by the manufacturer, of systems and fixtures are met
  • Ensures all installations, repairs, and maintenance are properly sized, aligned, supported, and graded
  • Ensures all installations, repairs, and maintenance meet the requirements of the appropriate codes.
  • Ensures all installations, repairs, and maintenance meet environmental protection requirements.
  • Due to the nature of the business, the carpenter may be required to do other duties and special projects, as assigned by the supervisor, such as assisting other trades or erecting partitions and walls.

 

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Good product knowledge of piping including grade and types, fixtures, and other related supplies.
  • Knowledge of local building codes.
  • Skill in use of power and hand tools, such as saws, table saw, drill press, chisels, rasps, etc.
  • Basic English language communication skills in order to read blueprints and mechanical drawings, communicate with co-workers, and fully comprehend job assignments.
  • Basic trade mathematical skills in order to calculate quantities of materials.
  • Ability to grasp, lift, or carry items weighing up to 80 lbs. occasionally above head.
  • Ability to reach above head and support items such as wood, ceiling tiles, etc.
  • Ability to push and pull objects or materials weighing up to 500 lbs. with assistance.
  • Ability to climb ladders, occasionally working at heights above 30 feet.
  • Ability to perform tasks consistently while bending, stooping, kneeling or standing while supporting additional weight of up to 80 lbs.

 

Qualifications:

Education:

Any combination of education, training, or experience of at least five years that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position.

Experience:

Previous experience with water distribution and wastewater disposal in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. Any combination of experience that provides the required knowledge of relevant building codes, legislation, regulations, and policies and procedures installation and maintenance.
