Job details:

The Team:

A number of exciting opportunities have arisen for skilled and enthusiastic Engineers to join JLR’s Vehicle Platform (VP) team at TBSI, working on high-integrity propulsion control software.

Propulsion Controls are a fast paced and dynamic area of the automotive industry. You will be a critical part of the team, directly supporting the development of our Autonomous, Connected, Electric and Shared future to help develop our future Propulsion Control Systems and Software, against standards such as ASPICE and ISO 26262.

The Role:

Jaguar Land Rover is looking for experienced Software Quality engineers who will be assuring the safety-critical software development process, work-product quality, and compliance with ASPICE, ISO 26262 and the corporate QMS.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the embedded process & quality representative within the TBSI team, providing day‑to‑day “at‑elbow” support for applying the corporate ASPICE‑compliant QMS.
  • Coach and mentor engineers on ASPICE, ISO 26262 and internal development processes, particularly in the context of model‑based design (MBD) and embedded control systems.
  • Conduct process compliance checks and work‑product reviews (e.g., Simulink models, auto‑generated code artefacts, requirements, test cases).
  • Ensure modelling guidelines, coding standards and verification practices are correctly applied to safety‑critical embedded software.
  • Support tailoring, deployment and continuous improvement of software processes, templates and guidance across the offshore team.
  • Collaborate closely with the UK-based process team to refine the QMS based on real‑world feedback.
  • Assist teams in preparing for internal/external audits, including, evidence capture and readiness for internal/external ASPICE or functional safety assessments.
  • Act as a communication bridge between UK QMS owners and offshore engineering teams, ensuring alignment, rapid issue resolution and consistent delivery quality.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • Strong working knowledge of ASPICE and hands‑on experience applying it within embedded software development projects.
  • Involvement in ASPICE assessment preparation or formal assessments.
  • Understanding of ISO 26262 software safety concepts and required work products for ASIL‑rated systems.
  • Understanding of model‑based development, especially using MATLAB/Simulink for control system design, verification and code generation.
  • Awareness of underlying software engineering and coding principles (e.g., data types, scheduling, state machines, embedded constraints).
  • Background in software process assurance, quality engineering or process development in a safety‑critical industry.
  • Ability to review MBD artefacts, generated code, requirements and tests for quality, consistency and compliance.
  • Proven ability to coach engineers and support process adoption.

Desirable:

  • Automotive experience preferred, but strong candidates from similar industries will also be considered (e.g. defence, aerospace, rail)
  • Experience working with distributed / multi-location engineering teams.
  • Audit / assessment qualification – e.g. INTACS certified 'Competent Assessor', 'ASPICE Expert', or similar.
  • Knowledge of automotive architectures, communication protocols, and technologies
  • Understanding of model‑in‑the‑loop, software‑in‑the‑loop or hardware‑in‑the‑loop verification environments.
  • Familiarity with common lifecycle tools (e.g., DOORS / TRM, Jira, configuration management).
  • Knowledge of additional automotive standards or regulatory frameworks (e.g., ISO 21434 Cybersecurity, UNECE R155/156).
